The entire staff of beloved game publisher Annapurna Interactive has reportedly resigned

Bloomberg reports that the entire staff of Annapurna Interactive, the gaming division of Megan Ellison’s Annapurna, has resigned after failing to convince Ellison to let them spin off its games division into a new company. IGN is corroborating the report. “All 25 members of the Annapurna Interactive team collectively resigned,’’ former president Nathan Gary and staffers told Bloomberg. “This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make and we did not take this action lightly.” An Annapurna spokesperson told Bloomberg that existing games and projects will remain under the company. Annapurna didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment from The Verge. Last week, The Hollywood Reporter said that Gary and the coheads of Annapurna Interactive, Deborah Mars and Nathan Vella, would be leaving. THR also reported that Annapurna planned to “integrate its in-house gaming operations with the rest of Annapurna’s divisions, which include film, TV and theater.” Hector Sanchez, who most recently headed up the Unreal Engine games business at Epic Games and is an Annapurna Interactive cofounder, announced last month …

Game publisher blames media for studio closure

The grim cadence of video game layoffs continues apace, but this latest news comes with a strange twist. Prytania Media has shut down studio Possibility Space effective immediately. In an email to employees reproduced on social media by Polygon reporter Nicole Carpenter, Jeff Strain, Prytania’s co-founder, seemingly attributed the closure to an as-yet unpublished article from Kotaku reporter Ethan Gach. Strain wrote that he received questions from Gach regarding an upcoming article and that some of those questions pertained to a not-yet-public project codenamed “Vonnegut.” According to Strain, after receiving questions on Vonnegut, he had an emergency meeting with its publishers wherein it was decided that the publisher would cease investment, resulting in the project’s cancellation. “As a result of the cancellation of the publishing relationship and after careful consideration,” Strain wrote, “I am closing Possibility Space.” In a statement posted on the now defunct Crop Circle Games website (archived here), Crop Circle’s co-founder and Jeff Strain’s wife, Annie Delisi Strain, also addressed Gach’s reporting. “I stepped down as CEO this winter on a medical …

Prince Harry gets OK to use key evidence in phone hacking case against Daily Mail publisher | World News

LONDON (AP) — Prince Harry scored a tactical victory in his battles with British tabloids Friday when government ministers said he could use confidential documents that show payments by the publisher of the Daily Mail to private investigators who allegedly snooped on him and several celebrities. HT Image The Duke of Sussex, Elton John, Elizabeth Hurley and others claim that Associated Newspapers Ltd. hacked their phones or used other unlawful means, such as bugging and other electronic surveillance to spy on them. Hindustan Times – your fastest source for breaking news! Read now. Justice Matthew Nicklin in November had rejected the newspapers’ effort to throw out the case, but his ruling also dealt a blow to Harry and the others. Ledgers showing payments to private eyes that had been leaked to Harry’s legal team from a government inquiry into phone hacking could only be used with the newspapers’ permission or by an order from the judge who oversaw the 2011-12 probe or the government ministers who had ordered the inquiry, Nicklin said. Associated Newspapers, which …
