The Delhi High Court today (September 12) sought former probationary Indian Administrative Service (IAS) trainee Puja Khedkar’s response on a plea by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) seeking initiation of perjury proceedings against her for allegedly giving false statement and affidavit in the court. The UPSC contended that the July 31 communication by which Khedkar’s candidature was cancelled was communicated to her on her registered email-id the same day. It said it was the same email id, which was registered in her online application for the Civil Service Program (CSP) 2022. However, she made a false statement in the court that she has not been served with the order and she came to know of it only through the press release issued by the UPSC, it claimed. Puja Khedkar was found guilty of cheating and wrongly availing OBC and disability quota benefits New Delhi: The Centre has discharged Puja Khedkar from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) with immediate effect, a month after the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) cancelled her selection in one of the most sought-after branches of government service. Ms Khedkar was found guilty of cheating and wrongly availing Other Backward Classes (OBC) and disability quota benefits. After cancelling her selection, the UPSC had barred her from taking the entrance exam for life. The UPSC found her guilty of faking her identity to take the exam multiple times. Following the controversy, the UPSC had looked into the data of more than 15,000 candidates who cleared the IAS screening process between 2009 and 2023. “After this detailed exercise, barring the case of Ms Puja Manorama Dilip Khedkar, no other candidate has been found to have availed more number of attempts than permitted under the CSE Rules,” the UPSC had said, referring to the Civil Services Examination Rules. Former Maharashtra IAS trainee Pooja Khedkar’s troubles are likely to deepen as Delhi Police has submitted another status report to the Delhi High Court on Wednesday. In its report, the Delhi Police has stated that her disability claims are fake. The report also claimed that Khedkar altered her name in the certificate. The investigation by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police suggests that the disability certificate submitted by Pooja Khedkar might be fraudulent. The report states that Khedkar submitted two disability certificates (multiple disabilities) in 2022 and 2024, which were purportedly issued by the Medical Authority in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. However, upon verification, the Medical Authority denied issuing these certificates, stating that the disability certificates claimed by Pooja Khedkar were not issued by them. Last week, the Delhi High Court extended the interim protection from arrest for Khedkar.
