The Moshi Waste-to-Energy Plant tragedy has come under the scanner of two national statutory bodies, with the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) and the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) taking serious cognisance of the incident and seeking detailed reports from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and other authorities. The commissions have issued notices directing the concerned authorities to submit comprehensive reports within 15 days, raising questions over safety standards, accountability and the circumstances that led to the fatal incident. According to the notice issued by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes on July 13, the Commission received a petition from Advocate Sagar Ratan Charan and decided to initiate an inquiry under the powers conferred on it under Article 338 of the Constitution of India. Notices have been served to the PCMC Commissioner and the Commissioner of Social Welfare, Maharashtra, directing them to furnish details of the action taken on the allegations within 15 days. A motorcyclist was killed after a cement mixer truck overturned and crushed his two-wheeler in Maharashtra`s Pune city shortly after midnight on Wednesday, police said, reported PTI. The incident occurred around 12.30 am near a hospital at Navale Bridge in the Narhe area on the Katraj-Bavdhan route, reported PTI. The cement mixer truck suddenly overturned while negotiating a turn at the Navale chowk and fell onto the motorcycle, crushing the rider underneath, officials from Narhe police station said. The motorcyclist, identified as Rameshwar Machhindra Bhogale (31), a resident of Katraj and originally from Beed district, died on the spot, the police said, reported PTI. The truck driver, Gorakh Laxman Ransure (50), sustained minor head injuries and was taken for medical treatment, they said, reported PTI. The police later removed the vehicles from the spot and restored traffic movement on the stretch. Pune: A devastating hit-and-run incident occurred in Pune’s Undri area on Saturday, claiming the life of 34-year-old food delivery rider Mazhar Jilani Shaikh. His friend, who was riding with him, is undergoing treatment for injuries, according to a senior police official of Pune City Police. According to Senior Police Inspector Mansingh Patil from Kalepadal Police Station, the accident happened around 3 am when an unidentified car hit the bike. The driver fled the scene, and the Pune Police registered a case and launched an investigation to track down the accused. “Approximately at 3 am on Saturday, an unidentified car hit a bike in the Undri area on which 34-year-old Mazhar Jilani Shaikh and his friend were travelling, in the incident Mazhar Shaikh died at hospital while his friend was undergoing treatment,” said Patil. Pune: The grandfather of the Pune teen, who ran over two 24-year-old techies in a late-night drunken dash in a Porsche, has been arrested after the family’s driver alleged that he was wrongfully confined, threatened and told to take the blame for the accident, sources in the police have said. He has been charged under IPC sections relating to kidnapping and wrongful confinement, the sources added. Pune Police yesterday said efforts were made to force the driver to take blame minutes after the accident. After the accident, the grandfather locked up the driver and asked him to take the blame as the family tried to shield the minor, the sources said.
