Maharashtra: Motorcyclist crushed to death as cement mixer truck topples in Pune

A motorcyclist was killed after a cement mixer truck overturned and crushed his two-wheeler in Maharashtra`s Pune city shortly after midnight on Wednesday, police said, reported PTI. The incident occurred around 12.30 am near a hospital at Navale Bridge in the Narhe area on the Katraj-Bavdhan route, reported PTI. The cement mixer truck suddenly overturned while negotiating a turn at the Navale chowk and fell onto the motorcycle, crushing the rider underneath, officials from Narhe police station said. The motorcyclist, identified as Rameshwar Machhindra Bhogale (31), a resident of Katraj and originally from Beed district, died on the spot, the police said, reported PTI. The truck driver, Gorakh Laxman Ransure (50), sustained minor head injuries and was taken for medical treatment, they said, reported PTI. The police later removed the vehicles from the spot and restored traffic movement on the stretch. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) carried out a major demolition drive in Akurdi on Wednesday, removing nearly 12,000 square feet of unauthorised structures near Hotel Majestic as part of its ongoing action against illegal constructions across the city. The operation was conducted under the direct instructions of PCMC Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi and targeted unauthorised RCC structures and tin-sheet sheds built on Survey No. 7/1/1B in Ward No. 15, which falls under the jurisdiction of the civic body`s ‘A’ Ward Office. According to civic officials, the action forms part of the municipal corporation’s broader efforts to enforce building regulations, prevent illegal construction activities and ensure planned urban development.
