Maharashtra ATS questions 66 people in Pune over suspected links with Bhatti

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Tuesday questioned 66 people in Pune district after they were allegedly found to have been in contact with Pakistan-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti and his associates, reported the PTI. According to the ATS, the operation began at 7 am and was carried out with the assistance of Pune City Police, Pune Rural Police and Pimpri Chinchwad Police. The ATS said it suspects that Bhatti used social media platforms to attempt to radicalise Indian youths and encourage them to take part in anti-national activities. Bhatti, along with his associates Abid Jatt alias Abid Chhal, Ajmal Gujar, Hammad Memon, Rana Hunain and Ashraf Bashir Alam, allegedly used social media platforms to establish contact with Indian youths, according to the ATS. Investigators alleged that Bhatti and his associates established contact with young people in India through platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Telegram and WhatsApp, as per the PTI. Average vehicle speeds on main roads in Pune rises by 10 percent: Police | Pune News

Utilising the “Low Cost Traffic Management Techniques (LCTM)”, the Pune city police claimed to have achieved a 10.44 percent rise in the average speed of vehicles on the main roads in its jurisdiction. As per the data shared during the annual press conference on Monday, the average speed of vehicles on the main roads in Pune city was 22.5 kilometers per hour in the past. Now, the average speed on main roads is 19.5 kilometers per hour, police said. The series of changes implemented by the Pune traffic police were coordinated by Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil in association with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and other agencies. The various measures undertaken by the traffic police and PMC for increasing average speed and reducing vehicular congestions, included – 23 junction closures or right turn bans, seven one way roads, synchronisation of 101 traffic signals, opening/closing of medians at 20 spots, shifting of 19 bus stops, relocation of five luxury bus pick up points, surfacing on 12 arterial roads, removing six bottlenecks, fixing problems at ten …

The Pune city police have arrested a burglar allegedly involved in 64 house break-ins and recovered a sack with gold and silver ornaments worth 17 lakh and equipment used for the thefts. The police said the accused Harshad Gulab Pawar, 31, a resident of Gulab Nagar in Mulshi taluka of Pune district, changed clothes after every house break-in and travelled up to 50 kilometres through narrow lanes, making it difficult for the police to track him from CCTV footage. “So far, we have recovered 236.53 grams of gold jewellery, 212 grams of silver ornaments, and other valuables from the accused. Further investigation is on. It is being probed whether he committed more thefts and there is a possibility that more gold would be seized from him,” Sandip Singh Gill, Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone 1), told reporters on Thursday.
