Disciplinary action would be taken against those found to have cross-voted against the NDA’s candidate in the polls after a committee headed by MLC C.T. Ravi with State vice-president N. Mahesh and MLA Mahesh Tenginakayi as members submitted its report on the matter. The deadline for the committee to submit its report is June 25. BJP Karnataka president B.Y. How Arjun Erigaisi punished Magnus Carlsen’s rare rook blunder in Hong Kong

How Arjun Erigaisi punished Magnus Carlsen’s rare rook blunder in Hong Kong

3 min readUpdated: Jun 18, 2026 11:49 PM IST Just days after R. Praggnanandhaa’s impressive exploits at Norway Chess 2026, where he defeated Magnus Carlsen twice, another Indian has struck a blow against the five-time World Champion. Arjun Erigaisi tasted victory over Carlsen during the second day of the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championship 2026 in Hong Kong. Arjun, representing defending Rapid team champions MGD1, played on top board against a star-studded WR Chess side, who were hot favourites and led by Carlsen on Board No. 1. In the sixth round of the Rapid event, Arjun was pitted against Carlsen, and his win helped MGD1 defeat WR Chess in a high-octane clash. In a wild Queen’s Gambit Declined game, an uncharacteristic rook blunder by Carlsen proved decisive. The Norwegian had earlier sacrificed his bishop in desperation to gain an edge, but a queen b6 check from Arjun ensured the advantage stayed with the Indian. Arjun admitted he initially thought he had missed something when Carlsen launched the aggressive bishop takes e6 sacrifice. However, …

How Harmanpreet Singh and Co were punished by Argentina in a 0-8 Pro League thrashing

How Harmanpreet Singh and Co were punished by Argentina in a 0-8 Pro League thrashing

The key takeaway from Craig Fulton’s first interaction with the media after becoming India’s head coach was that his philosophy is ‘defend to win’. He has insisted that he has always tried to instil defensive structure into his players, and it has reaped rewards. He reiterated the same when assessing the 1-3 defeat against Belgium a day earlier: “We normally pride ourselves on defence, but it wasn’t how we like it.” Precisely for this reason, what unfolded in front of his eyes at the Birsa Munda Stadium would have frustrated him. India’s defence went missing in a barely believable first half where they conceded seven goals before eventually losing 0-8 against Argentina. The Pro League isn’t always treated as the most important event in the calendar by the world’s best teams, but a nightmare performance at the start of a massive year for Indian hockey is a serious cause for concern. While Argentina were indeed clinical with their finishing – with Tomas Domene smashing four goals in a stellar display – almost every single goal …

OPINION | Taliban in Karnataka: Culprits must be punished

The woman was appealing to the mob with folded hands, but the men continued beating her with sticks. The question is: Is religious fundamentalism above law in India? Have the religious radicals no fear of law? New Delhi: The brutal manner in which a Muslim woman was beaten with sticks and pipes outside a mosque in Davangere, Karnataka, forces us to think about the devils living in our midst in the 21st century. No civil society can tolerate such a horrendous act in the name of Shariah. It is a good sign that the Davangere police acted promptly and arrested six of the attackers soon after the video appeared on social media. Their names: Muhammed Niaz, Muhammed Ghaus Pir, Chand Basha, Inayatullah, Dastgir and TRasool.  It is now the duty of the police to ensure that other individuals who were part of the mob must also be caught and brought to justice. All these culprits must be given severe punishment so that nobody could dare commit such a crime in the name of religion. This …
