AAP Dismisses Arvind Kejriwal’s Parliament Entry Buzz

New Delhi: AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal has a big responsibility for the party’s pan India expansion and he will not become a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, party leaders said on Wednesday. The buzz over Mr Kejriwal going to the Rajya Sabha intensified with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) declaring the sitting MP of the upper house from Punjab, Sanjeev Arora, as its candidate for the bypoll in Ludhiana West Assembly seat. Mr Kejriwal, the former three-term chief minister of Delhi, was defeated in the recent assembly polls from the New Delhi seat by BJP’s Parvesh Verma. Mr Kejriwal is working to expand the AAP throughout the country, said senior party leader Somnath Bharti. “Kejriwal will not go to the Rajya Sabha because he has the big responsibility of the party’s expansion in the country and he is working on it,” Bharti told PTI. Echoing similar sentiments, AAP chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said Sanjeev Arora is the best candidate for Ludhiana West seat and that is why he has been fielded from there. She said …

AAP in Punjab | Mann under fire

AAP in Punjab | Mann under fire

On Diwali eve, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab organised a protest in front of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit headquarters in capital Chandigarh. The plan was to divert the farmers’ ire towards the BJP-led central government, blaming it for the tardy paddy procurement in the state. The crisis affects nearly a million farmers, with 11.9 million tonnes of paddy languishing at farm gates or in mandis. The situation, described by experts as the worst procurement crisis in three decades and being attributed to “bureaucratic incompetence”, threatens to disrupt the upcoming rabi wheat sowing season as well. Power subsidy out, fuel prices up: AAP feels the pinch of Punjab’s huge funds crunch | Political Pulse News

Facing an acute funds crunch, Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has taken a series of tough financial decisions, including a partial rollback of power subsidy, hike in the VAT on petrol and diesel, and increase in bus fares by 23 paise per km, inviting criticism by the Opposition. However, the rollback in the power subsidy is a particularly thorny move for the AAP as its government had continued this grant of Rs 3 per unit up to a 7KW load introduced by the previous Congress regime, after it came to power in 2022. This was over and above the offer of 300 units of free power per month to all consumers, which was one of its poll promises. The withdrawal of the subsidy, which is expected to affect at least 12 lakh consumers during the summer months and 1.5 lakh in the winter, will help the state exchequer save Rs 1,800 crore a year, as well as raise an additional Rs 300 crore in revenues on account of the various taxes levied on power …

In Punjab, disillusionment with AAP boosts Congress hopes | Political Pulse News

“I had voted for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2022, this time I will vote for the Congress chaahe jitte chaahe haare (whether it wins or loses),” says Baljinder Kumar of Rakra Dhahan village in the Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha constituency as his wife Kulwinder Kaur nods. The Congress won 8 of the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab in 2019. However, since then, the party has been facing a series of setbacks. It was swept away in the 2022 Assembly polls, where it won only 18 of the 117 seats, and the aftermath saw many of its leaders, including former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, deserting the ship for the BJP. With almost two dozen others facing Vigilance probes and jail terms, the Punjab Congress can take heart from such voices. Months ago, AICC general secretary in-charge for Punjab Devender Yadav, told The Indian Express that they would fight the polls “on the front foot” with their stalwarts in the ring. True to his word, the party has fielded senior leaders such as …

Amarinder Singh’s Dig At Bhagwant Mann

Capt Amarinder Singh spoke exclusively to NDTV in Chandigarh. Chandigarh: Punjab’s former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh today said he “does not understand” who exactly is running the state since the AAP took power. “First I need to know who the chief minister is: Bhagwant Mann or Raghav Chadha,” said Capt Singh, a former Congress leader who recently joined the BJP.  Speaking exclusively to NDTV at the ‘Sadda Punjab’ conclave in Chandigarh on Saturday, he claimed, “Officers tell me all the files go to Raghav Chadha, who approves and sends them back to Bhagwant Mann, so that he can formally put his signatures. Is this the way to do things? This must be the first such instance in India.” #SaddaPunjab | “Don’t know who is running Punjab”: Former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to NDTV pic.twitter.com/DunItgdinL — NDTV (@ndtv) December 17, 2022 He said the “downfall” of the AAP government, in power since March, “has begun already, when usually people take a year or two before judging a new government”.
