The Punjab Vidhan Sabha Tuesday passed the Punjab Abadi Deh (Record of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2025, Indian Stamp (Punjab Second Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Punjab Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The Bills were passed during the one-day special session called to pass a resolution against the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act (VB-G RAM G). Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian said the amendment to the Indian Stamp Act, 1899 rationalises stamp duty related to deposit of title deeds, hypothecation and equitable mortgage by removing duplication of levy for the same loan transaction. The Punjab Abadi Deh Bill reduces timelines for objections and appeals will speed up implementation of “Mera Ghar Mere Naam” Scheme, ensuring timely ownership rights to residents of ‘Abadi Deh’ areas, he said. The minister said amendments to the Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1887 will expedite disposal of cases before revenue authorities, prevent unnecessary summoning of non-litigants and accord legal sanctity to digital records and digital signatures. Balwinder Singh Mann, a marginal farmer with just 10 kanal (1.25 acres), lost Rs 1.15 crore in the past two decades but didn’t lose his heart, nor did he ever consider taking extreme measures. Instead, the 48-year-old farmer from Tungwali village in Bathinda district defied all odds to become one of the region’s most successful goat breeders, turning his farm into a thriving business worth several crores of rupees and doubling his holding from 1.25 acres to 2.50 acres. The Punjab Government Tuesday extended winter break in all government, aided, recognised, and private schools until January 7. The schools in the state were scheduled to reopen on January 1. Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains posted on X: “ As the directions of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, due to cold weather, holidays are being observed in all government, aided, recognized and private schools of Punjab till January 7. Crushed under debts, Amrinder Singh, 34 and an aeronautical engineer from Hoshiarpur in Punjab, was on the verge of giving up all hopes in 2013 and had even purchased poison to end his life.
