Senior Puri Jagannath temple servitor who took part in Digha shrine consecration suspended for 30 days | India News

TEN DAYS after he attended the inauguration of a Jagannath temple in West Bengal’s Digha, a senior servitor at the Puri Jagannath temple was on Sunday suspended by the temple authorities for a month for “demeaning the sanctity and dignity” of the 12th century shrine, one among the four dhams in Hinduism. According to the suspension order issued by Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) chief administrator Arabinda Padhee, Ramakrushna Dasmohapatra has been debarred from participating in any temple ritual and also from entering into temple premises for 30 days. Officials said the disciplinary action has been initiated as per the provisions of the Shri Jagannath Temple Act, 1955. The order also warned against any attempt to influence or intimidate other servitors or individuals which will impact the rituals of the temple. The Srimandir Parikrama Prakalpa was officially unveiled by Mr Patnaik in presence of Gajapati Maharaja of Puri Divyasingha Deb and representatives of about 90 temples, including the Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal, Mahakal Temple in Ujjain, Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Kashi, Jagannath temples in Dubai, Australia and UK, and thousands of devotees. “The project has been possible due to the blessings of Lord Jagannath,” the Chief Minister said. 6 School Girls Injured In Stampede-Like Situation At Jagannath Temple In Puri

(File) Puri: At least six girl students were hospitalised after being injured in a stampede-like situation at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, police said. The condition of the girls is stated to be stable. The students, part of a 70-member group of boys and girls from Hrudananda High School in Rasgovindpur area of Mayurbhanj district, had come to Puri on Monday for a picnic during the Christmas holidays, a police officer said. The students were at the sea beach throughout the day, and went to visit the 12th-century shrine in the evening before returning home, he said. While climbing the 22 steps (‘Baisi Pahacha’) to the temple around 8 pm, the girls were caught in a stampede-like situation and fainted, a temple office-bearer said. There were a large number of visitors at the temple during the day. The injured girls, students of classes 9 and 10, were later rescued and admitted to a local hospital.
