Pinkvilla Q&A: You reported PVRINOX had Toxic AP/TS rights; Why were they later announced with SVC?

Pinkvilla Q&A: You reported PVRINOX had Toxic AP/TS rights; Why were they later announced with SVC?

Question: You reported that Toxic APTS distribution rights were acquired by PVRINOX, but it was soon after officially announced to be acquired by SVC. Why is that?(Abhishek) Answer: At the time the exclusive report was published, the Telugu states distribution rights of Toxic were indeed with PVRINOX Pictures. The deal was in place and confirmed through trade channels. However, shortly thereafter, SVC came in with a more aggressive offer, leading to a change in distribution. In the film trade, such developments are not uncommon; deals can evolve if a better financial proposal comes in. There are two conflicting reports on the amount of the SVC deal, the one being Rs. 45 crore non-refundable advance, seeming more plausible. Question: Animation films do big business worldwide, as seen with Ne Zha 2 and Zootopia 2 being the two biggest films of last year. Why is that not the case in India?(Saurabh Khatri, Gwalior) Answer: Yes, animation films are huge at the global box office. There are a couple of factors that go against the genre in India. …

EXCLUSIVE: Dhurandhar v/s Toxic intensifies; Yash starrer partners with PVRInox for distribution in Telugu states

There are visible movements in the distribution sector. After the news of Shah Rukh Khan starrer King getting an advance offer of Rs. 200 crore yesterday, another significant update has now emerged. Yash starrer Toxic has locked its Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (APTS) distribution rights with PVRINOX Pictures. The deal is learnt to be of Rs. 40 crore advance, on a commission basis. As is usually the case, PVRINOX Pictures is expected to further sell most of the sub-territories to the local distributors across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while potentially retaining select areas with themselves. On the surface this may appear to be and frankly is just a Telugu market distribution deal, however there may be more to it. The real significance of this development lies at the national level.  Toxic is currently scheduled to clash with Dhurandhar: The Revenge over the Eid festive period in March. PVRINOX is the largest multiplex chain in the country, and this association could potentially offer strategic advantages beyond just the Telugu states. The question is whether this deal …
