Allu Arjun seeks relief in case of violating code of conduct during AP elections 2024; submits quashing petition

Allu Arjun grabbed the spotlight during the elections in Andhra Pradesh back in May 2024 after he violated the model code of conduct maintained during polling and visited Nandyal to show his support for YSRCP candidate Shilpa Ravi Chandra Kishore Reddy. While an immediate case was filed against the actor on this matter, it seems the star has now taken up a completely different recourse. The recent report suggests that Allu Arjun filed a petition to quash the existing case against him in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, where he was accused of violating Section 144 and Police Act 30, which were placed in action in Andhra Pradesh at that time. The actor’s visit to Nandyal to show his support for the candidate created a huge crowd gathering that went against the norms of poll conduct. The Supreme Court on Friday set aside its own decision quashing prosecutions under the Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988 after noticing that the decision which declared two provisions of the Act unconstitutional was passed without there being any challenge or arguments made to that effect. The matter will now be placed before a bench to be assigned by CJI. (File photo) A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud passed the order on a review petition filed by Centre challenging the August 23, 2022, passed by a three-judge bench headed by then CJI NV Ramana. The said decision held the 1988 law to be overly broad, disproportionately harsh and without adequate safeguards. This became the basis for the court to strike down key provisions of the law and set aside all prosecutions carried out under this law till amendments were introduced in the year 2016. The Delhi High Court on Tuesday reserved orders in a plea by former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain seeking quashing of one of the First Information Reports against him and the subsequent proceedings, including the charges framed against him in relation to the same FIR. Hussain is facing allegations of rioting, criminal conspiracy and promoting communal enmity as well as offences under the Arms Act in relation to the 2020 North East Delhi riots. Two FIRs were lodged against Hussain for similar offences from one incident, only differentiated by the place of offence — one for the offence committed on the ground floor of the building and another on the first floor of the same building. The two FIRs were lodged at the Khajuri Khas Police Station. Delhi HC asks ED to respond to Jacqueline`s plea seeking quashing of FIR

The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to respond to Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez`s plea seeking quashing of an FIR against her in a Rs 200 crore money laundering case involving alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. Justice Jyoti Singh issued notice to the ED on the actor`s petition and listed the matter for further hearing on January 29, 2024. The petition has also sought to quash the second supplementary charge sheet filed by the ED in the case and related proceedings pending before a trial court in Delhi. Fernandez is an accused in the money laundering case lodged against Chandrasekhar.

The petition, which is likely to come for hearing during the week, has also sought to quash the second supplementary charge sheet filed by the ED in the case and related proceedings pending before a trial court in Delhi. “At the outset it is submitted that evidence filed by the Directorate of Enforcement would prove that the petitioner (Ms. Fernandez) is an innocent victim of Sukesh Chandrasekhar’s maliciously targeted attack. There is absolutely no indication that she had any involvement whatsoever in aiding him to launder his purportedly ill-gotten wealth.
