The chairman of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Maharashtra`s Beed district has come on the radar of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for allegedly cheating donors after raising funds on the pretext of helping people in Palestine and Gaza, police said on Sunday. The ATS, which monitors social media platforms to detect suspicious activity and gather intelligence, recently discovered that the head of the NGO was collecting donations in his personal bank account using a Unified Payments Interface (UPI) Quick Response (QR) code linked to it, an officer said. Based on a complaint by officers from the agency`s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar unit, a case of criminal breach of trust and cheating has been registered at Georai Police Station on Friday, he said. The accused, Qureshi Shah Rukh Qureshi Chhote Miyan, who is a resident of Georai, runs a non-profit named Himayat Foundation, he added. The foundation, registered with the charity commissioner, works on 70 different mottos, and Qureshi is its founder and chairman, he said. The government on Friday said new regulations requiring mandatory verification and stamping of traffic radar equipment will be implemented from July 1 to improve road safety and enforcement accuracy across the country. The Consumer Affairs Ministry has notified the rules following extensive consultations with stakeholders, including the Indian Institute of Legal Metrology, Regional Reference Laboratories, manufacturers, and vehicle certification organisations. “These rules will come into force from July 1, 2025, providing sufficient time for industries and enforcement agencies to comply with the provisions,” the ministry said in a statement. The new rules, which fall under the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011, will apply to “microwave Doppler radar equipment” widely utilised for measuring vehicle speeds on roads. These rules specify detailed technical and safety requirements, ensuring proper calibration, stable operation under various environmental conditions and protection against tampering. Such measures will foster a culture of technological reliability and legal accountability. Bhopal: A constable-turned-builder in Madhya Pradesh is being investigated by multiple central agencies in connection with an alleged corruption case. The case is being probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Lokayukta with each agency focusing on different aspects of the case, which came to light earlier this week. On December 19, assets worth Rs 7.98 crore, including Rs 2.87 crore in cash and 234 kilograms of silver were seized after searches at the properties of Saurabh Sharma – a former constable in the state transport department – in Bhopal by Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta’s Special Police Establishment (SPE). The investigation gained momentum when 52 kg gold and Rs 11 crore cash were found in an abandoned SUV parked on the outskirts of Bhopal the same day. The car was found in the Mendori forest on the city’s outskirts following inputs that gold was being transported via jungle route.
