The Meghalaya police on Thursday moved the Supreme Court seeking an immediate stay on the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the alleged murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, contending that she may flee from justice if released. File | Photo Credit: PTI The Meghalaya High Court on Monday (June 29, 2026) upheld a trial court order granting bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the murder of her husband during their honeymoon in the northeastern State in 2025. A single-judge Bench of Justice W. Diengdoh dismissed the criminal petition filed by the State government, seeking cancellation of the bail granted by the trial court on April 27. Justice Diengdoh held that the manner in which the grounds of arrest were prepared reflected a “total non-application of judicious mind”. “It is evident that such preparation was made without any application of mind… and nowhere is found any specific allegation or information as to what are the actual charges against her,” the high court observed. “If this is the manner in which the intimation of the grounds of arrest is made, the same reflects a total non-application of judicious mind on the part of the arresting agency,” …

A court in Meghalaya on Tuesday granted bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi, an Indore resident, is accused of orchestrating the murder of her husband during their honeymoon in the state in 2025, reported the PTI. Police said that legal procedures are ongoing and the investigation will continue. Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem told the PTI, “The accused has been granted bail by the court. However, necessary legal procedures are being followed and the police will continue to pursue the matter as per law.” Officials said that despite the bail, the case remains active. Further evidence collection and legal proceedings will determine the course of the trial.
