The Ajit Pawar-led faction was the real Nationalist Congress Party when two factions emerged in the party in 2023, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar osaid on Thursday. He went on to dismiss disqualification petitions against MLAs of both sides. While reading out the verdict, Narwekar said the “misuse of provisions of Constitution’s 10th schedule by political parties was apparent in NCP case”, adding that questioning Sharad Pawar’s decision does not about to defection. The verdict comes a month after Narwekar declared the Shiv Sena faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the real political party. In further jolts to the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi in the last month, three key Congress leaders – Milind Deora, Ashok Chavan and Baba Siddique – quit the Grand Old Party and joined various parties of the ruling coalition.
