Maharashtra govt has signed MoUs worth Rs 4,080 cr in electronic, logistics: CM

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said Maharashtra has a unique opportunity to emerge as a leader in electronics manufacturing and modern logistics. Speaking at the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) at his official residence, Varsha, Fadnavis assured investors that the state government would act as a partner in their growth journey. “The government`s role is to help create a complete industrial ecosystem in the state. Entrepreneurs should consider the government as their partner in this journey,” he said. The agreements were signed between the Maharashtra government and leading electronics manufacturing company Jabil, as well as Dubai-based RSA Global, an official statement said. Major boost for industry and employment  It said that the two projects together are expected to bring investments worth Rs 4,080 crore to the state and generate around 4,750 direct and indirect employment opportunities. A revenue department official was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, officials said on Wednesday, reported the PTI. The 49-year-old accused was caught in a trap operation conducted by the ACB at the Panvel tehsil office. According to officials, the complainant and his wife had purchased land at Gavdevi Pada in Panvel and required a mutation entry in the official records. When the complainant approached the circle office for the 7/12 land record entry, the official allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 to complete the process, the news agency reported. After negotiations, the amount was reportedly reduced to Rs 30,000. ACB trap operation Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB’s Raigad unit and lodged a complaint. Acting on the information, officials laid a trap on Tuesday and caught the accused red-handed while accepting Rs 30,000. A rare injured Rusty-spotted Cat, regarded as the world’s smallest wild cat species, was rescued from a hostel campus near the Kharghar Hills in Maharashtra’s Raigad district after being spotted by a group of students. According to wildlife officials, the students found the wild cat in an injured condition inside the Panvel hostel premises. They secured the animal and immediately alerted the Forest Department. Forest Department, RAWW carry out rescue operation The rescue operation was jointly conducted by the Forest Department and members of Mumbai-based wildlife rescue organisation Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW). The custody of the animal was later handed over to RAWW for treatment and rehabilitation. Wild cat suffers fractures, remains critical Wildlife rescuers said the Rusty-spotted Cat sustained severe injuries, including multiple fractures, and is currently in critical condition. According to IMD scientists, daytime temperatures are expected to cross 38 degree Celsius in isolated parts of Thane, while Mumbai may record highs of up to 36 degree Celsius. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region has witnessed hot and humid conditions over the past week, with IMD issuing a yellow alert for Mumbai and adjoining districts between May 7 and May 11 as temperatures hovered close to 40 degree Celsius. ACB arrests MSEDCL assistant engineer for accepting Rs 1.5 lakh bribe in Raigad

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested an assistant engineer of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) in Raigad for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh, reported the PTI. According to the officials, the corruption case involves a person who had applied for a consent letter to install a 200 KV transformer for business purposes at Pali, Khalapur in Raigad district of Maharashtra. To issue the required project estimate, the accused, posted at the Khalapur unit, initially demanded Rs 1.7 lakh, which he later reduced to Rs 1.5 lakh after negotiations, according to ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police Sarita IS Bhosale, as per the PTI. Unwilling to pay, the applicant approached the ACB. A trap was laid at the MSEDCL office on Monday, and the accused was caught accepting the Rs 1.5 lakh bribe. After three consecutive years of recording the lowest pass percentage among all nine divisions of the Maharashtra State Board, the Mumbai division has made a turnaround in the HSC results this year. With a pass percentage of 92.93%, Mumbai has climbed to the third position among the nine divisions in the state, following Konkan (96.74%) and Kolhapur (93.64%). This marks a leap from last year’s 91.95% and an improvement over previous years, with 88.13% in 2023 and 90.91% in 2022.
