Dark clouds have been covering the sky in the Delhi-NCR since Monday evening followed by a drizzle in the early hours of Tuesday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that similar weather conditions will likely prevail in the Delhi-NCR until Wednesday. Earlier, the fog conditions prevailed in the national capital but after early morning showers, the visibility has increased significantly. Meanwhile, a rain alert has been issued in many districts of Delhi-NCR, Western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab today. Meanwhile, snowfall continued in Himalayan states including Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.  Highest rainfall in 15 years in Delhi On Friday, Delhi-NCR recorded the highest rainfall in December in the last 15 years. The Meteorological Department said that the rain started at around 2.30 am on Thursday night and continued throughout the day. According to the data of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), 9.1 mm of rain was recorded in the city in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Friday. According to the meteorological department, the well-marked low-pressure area over the Southwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal is likely to move west-southwestwards which will bring light to heavy rainfall in southern India. Along with the rain, the severe cold will also increase. The met department has said that along with the rain, there is a possibility of cold wave for the next five to seven days. The rain predictions come amid the intensification of the low-pressure area into a depression in the Bay of Bengal.  On late Tuesday night, the depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal moved northwestwards. The depression will most likely cross the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts early on the morning of October 17. Image Source : PTI/FILE Representative Image The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted heavy rainfall alerts for multiple states. The rains will significantly affect Peninsular India because of the low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal. The weather conditions are likely to persist for the next few days. Extremely Heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu The IMD has predicted extremely heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu today. According to IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram, among others. Moreover, extremely heavy rains in a few places are likely over Nagapattinam, Tiruvaruru and Karaikel. Notably, several parts of Chennai have already witnessed heavy rainfall since last night.  The rains will be accompanied by thunderstorms in a few places.
