UP forms new SIT to probe Ram Mandir donation theft case

In line with the Supreme Court’s instructions, Uttar Pradesh government has reconstituted the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for investigation into alleged irregularities of donations and offerings made at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple.  According to reports, the newly constituted SIT includes three senior IPS officers, with Inspector General (IG) Kiran S heading the team. The new SIT will also has DIG Ayodhya Somen Verma and SSP Ayodhya Dr Gaurav Grover as its members. The move comes after the Supreme Court ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to constitute a fresh SIT, under the leadership of a senior IPS officer. The bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, also comprising Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohan, had directed that a status report of the investigation be submitted on July 27. So far, eight accused have been arrested by the Ayodhya Police as part of investigation into the embezzlement allegation, with investigators recovering cash, vehicles, investment-related documents and other assets purportedly bought using the misappropriated funds. Ayodhya Ram temple completes 10-day atonement ritual after theft row

A 10-day atonement and purification ritual undertaken at the Ram temple in Ayodhya following allegations of donation embezzlement concluded with a purnahuti (final offering) ceremony, temple trustee Mahant Dinendra Das said. The ritual, which began on July 15, was organised by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust to restore the sanctity of the temple premises after the alleged theft of devotees’ offerings came to light. Ritual concludes with purnahuti ceremony According to Mahant Dinendra Das, the concluding ceremony included a havan and special worship conducted in the temple’s yagyashala under the guidance of Vedic scholars. Trustee Mahant Dinendra Das and trustee Krishna Mohan participated as yajmans, offering ahutis during the final ritual. A community feast was also organised, during which local Brahmins were served food. Das said around 70 Vedic acharyas from Ayodhya and other parts of the country participated in the 10-day ceremony. SC declines urgent hearing on PIL over Ram Temple donations

The Supreme Court on Monday declined an urgent hearing on a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a court-monitored probe and forensic audit into the handling of donations and offerings received by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust over alleged financial irregularities linked to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.  When the matter was mentioned before a Bench of Justices M.M.  Sundresh and Sheel Nagu, the PIL litigant pressed for an urgent listing, saying the allegations raised in the plea were “very serious” and expressing apprehensions over the manner in which the state government was dealing with the matter. Questioning the urgency, the Justice Sundresh-led Bench asked, “What’s the urgency?” before directing that the plea be listed immediately after the court reopens post-summer vacation. The writ petition, filed by advocate Narendra Kumar Goswami in his personal capacity, seeks directions for the preservation of records and evidence relating to donations made at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple and greater transparency in the administration of temple offerings. ‘Surya abhishek’ of the idol of Ram Lalla at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya will be held on Ram Navami (April 17) as trials of the optomechanical system installed for the purpose were successful, functionaries of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust said. Daily trials will still be conducted to ensure that sunrays fall at the centre of the idol’s forehead at 12 noon on April 17, it is learnt. “Sunrays will illuminate the face of Ram Lalla for straight four minutes. Teams of scientists from the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, and another institute are engaged in this work,” a trust official said. “Two mirrors and a lens have been installed on the ground floor of the temple. Sunlight will fall on them from a mirror placed on the third floor. The rays reflected by these will form tilak on the forehead.” Since there is no way for direct sunlight to enter the temple’s “garbha griha” or sanctum sanctorum where the idol is placed, the optomechanical equipment was installed to throw sunrays on …
