Supreme Court proposes SIT probe into Ram Temple case

The petitioners have demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe and publication of the complete financial details, including foreign contributions, of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The hearing before a three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant began with Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta, for the Uttar Pradesh government, informing it that a status report of the investigation had been filed in the top court. Mr. Mehta briefly said eight people had been arrested and it was better not to divulge more details of an active investigation. SC seeks status report from UP SIT on Ayodhya Ram temple donation allegations

The Supreme Court on Monday directed the special investigation team (SIT) constituted by the Uttar Pradesh Government to submit a status report on its probe into the alleged embezzlement of donations received at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, news agency PTI reported. A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and N Kotiswar Singh also issued a notice to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on petitions seeking a fair and time-bound investigation into the alleged donation misappropriation. One of the petitions, filed by Narendra Kumar Goswami, sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged financial irregularities. He also sought an audit of the trust’s finances by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). Two other petitions, filed by advocates Ajay Kumar Rai and Dinesh Kumar Yadav, sought similar reliefs. A separate petition filed by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Member of Parliament (MP) Sudhakar Singh sought a Supreme Court-monitored CBI investigation along with a forensic audit of the trust’s entire finances. SC declines urgent hearing on PIL over Ram Temple donations

The Supreme Court on Monday declined an urgent hearing on a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a court-monitored probe and forensic audit into the handling of donations and offerings received by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust over alleged financial irregularities linked to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.  When the matter was mentioned before a Bench of Justices M.M.  Sundresh and Sheel Nagu, the PIL litigant pressed for an urgent listing, saying the allegations raised in the plea were “very serious” and expressing apprehensions over the manner in which the state government was dealing with the matter. Questioning the urgency, the Justice Sundresh-led Bench asked, “What’s the urgency?” before directing that the plea be listed immediately after the court reopens post-summer vacation. The writ petition, filed by advocate Narendra Kumar Goswami in his personal capacity, seeks directions for the preservation of records and evidence relating to donations made at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple and greater transparency in the administration of temple offerings.
