Home Minister Priyank Kharge | Photo Credit: File Photo The Karnataka government is planning to establish a Karnataka Urban Policing Innovation Centre (KUPIC) to strengthen urban policing through technology, research and innovation, Home Minister Priyank Kharge said on Thursday. The proposal was discussed during a detailed review meeting with senior police officers and expert advisory groups to examine the framework for the proposed centre, which aims to prepare the State’s urban police force for emerging challenges. Addressing the meeting, Mr. Kharge said rapid urbanisation has brought significant changes in the nature of crime, public safety concerns and traffic management, making it essential to adopt advanced technological solutions and institutionalise innovation within the policing system. The proposed centre will focus on research, innovation and technology development to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of urban policing. It will leverage emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, smart surveillance systems and digital platforms to improve policing capabilities and support evidence-based decision-making.
