Home Minister Priyank Kharge | Photo Credit: File Photo The Karnataka government is planning to establish a Karnataka Urban Policing Innovation Centre (KUPIC) to strengthen urban policing through technology, research and innovation, Home Minister Priyank Kharge said on Thursday. The proposal was discussed during a detailed review meeting with senior police officers and expert advisory groups to examine the framework for the proposed centre, which aims to prepare the State’s urban police force for emerging challenges. Addressing the meeting, Mr. Kharge said rapid urbanisation has brought significant changes in the nature of crime, public safety concerns and traffic management, making it essential to adopt advanced technological solutions and institutionalise innovation within the policing system. The proposed centre will focus on research, innovation and technology development to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of urban policing. It will leverage emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, smart surveillance systems and digital platforms to improve policing capabilities and support evidence-based decision-making. MP seeks new police station in Sector 125, Kharar, citing law-and-order concerns | Chandigarh News

The MP from Sri Anandpur Sahib, Malvinder Singh Kang, has formally urged the Punjab Police to set up a new police station in Sector 125, Kharar, citing growing public safety and law-and-order challenges arising from rapid urbanisation and population growth in the area. In a demi-official letter addressed to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, Kang highlighted that Sector 125 and its adjoining localities have witnessed a sharp surge in population over the past few years. “A large number of migrant residents have settled in the area, and the population in and around Sector 125 is now estimated to be nearly 60,000,” the MP stated, adding that the existing policing set-up is under severe strain. Kang pointed out that the area currently falls within the jurisdiction of Kharar police station, located almost 10 kilometres away. “Due to the distance and the fast-expanding population, timely police response in emergencies, accidents and law-and-order situations often gets delayed,” he noted, causing inconvenience to residents and affecting effective policing.
