Mirwaiz, MP Rashid, MP Ruhullah, Lone question mass arrests, demolitions after Anantnag attack

There is growing anger and anxiety among the leadership of the regional parties, including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Member of Parliament (MP) Engineer Rashid and MP Aga Syed Ruhullah, over the mass arrests and demolitions of houses of families of terrorists in Kashmir in the backdrop of the Anantnag attack, which left a policeman dead two days ago. Addressing the Friday (July 24, 2026) congregation at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar, the Mirwaiz said the past two days saw in Kashmir “large-scale detentions, questioning and harassment of youth across Kashmir, with over 2000 young men being picked up on allegations of being “over-ground workers” or OGWs”. “An act of violence by one cannot justify collective punishment for all. The killing should be investigated, and those responsible [in the Anantnag attack] should be dealt with according to law. But innocent youth and their families should not be scapegoats and made to suffer,” said the Mirwaiz. He said the reports of home demolitions of suspected militants, rendering their families homeless, “is another extrajudicial and unjust measure”. “Such measures …

Rashid Anwar and India’s Commonwealth Games journey

Rashid Anwar and India’s Commonwealth Games journey

The Commonwealth Games 2026 are less than a week away, with India set to compete in its 19th edition. Since making its debut in 1934, India has won a total of 564 Commonwealth Games medals, including 203 gold, 190 silver and 171 bronze. Over the decades, the country has produced several champions and memorable performances, but every journey has a beginning. India’s Commonwealth Games story started with wrestler Rashid Anwar. India made its Commonwealth Games debut at the 1934 British Empire Games in London. The Indian contingent comprised six athletes who competed in 10 athletics events and one wrestling event. India returned home with just one medal, but it was a historic one. Rashid Anwar became India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games medallist after claiming bronze in the men’s 74kg freestyle wrestling event. He secured the medal by defeating Wales’ Leonard Morgan before finishing behind Canada’s Joe Schleimer and England’s William Fox in the final standings. The competition followed a bracket-style format, with no separate bronze medal match. The achievement was historic not only because it was …

Gill, Sai, Buttler_ _ _ _Rabada, Siraj, Rashid: The glaring GT gap

Gill, Sai, Buttler_ _ _ _Rabada, Siraj, Rashid: The glaring GT gap

Ever since they joined the Indian Premier League (IPL) fold in 2022, Gujarat Titans (GT) have built a reputation as one of the smartest, most methodical franchises in the league. They built their squad around a strong bowling attack, an efficient top-order and the right balance of experienced Indian and overseas players. Yet, when the dust settles on another season where they remained largely consistent before faltering in the final, GT will be left circling back to the same question they have been asking for a while now: how to build a middle-order that supports the opening duo? Much of the Titans’ identity in IPL 2026 again revolved around two names that have now become synonymous with the franchise: Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. Between them, they don’t just open the innings but also form the batting backbone. Gill finished with 732 runs, Sudharsan with 722, and the opposition targeted their wickets more than those of anyone else in the team. Yet, beyond them, the transition between consolidation to late-innings explosion remained GT’s most glaring …

Rashid Khan unlikely to feature in Afghanistan’s one-off Test vs India: ‘There is no target in Test cricket’ | Cricket News

3 min readApr 9, 2026 05:29 PM IST Rashid Khan remains non-committal about featuring in Afghanistan’s one-off Test against India that is scheduled to be played in Mullanpur in June after the Indian Premier League (IPL). The star spinner said that he was advised by his doctor to stay away from red-ball cricket to prolong his career in the sport and that, along with the fact that Afghanistan don’t play in the World Test Championship, has resulted in him having to put Test cricket on the backburner. “It’s a little difficult in red ball, because that was the first thing which was told to me by the doctor, ‘You have to stay away from red ball.’ But I still played a Test against Zimbabwe,” Rashid told reporters after starring in Gujarat Titan’s one-run win over Delhi Capitals in the IPL on Thursday. Rashid had been diagnosed with a back injury before the 2023 World Cup and since then, he has had to ration his appearances in Test cricket. Rashid last played in a Test against …
