New-look Chennai Super Kings’ attacking approach falls flat as seamers set up big win for Rajasthan Royals. Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals. Sanju Samson in yellow and Ravindra Jadeja in pink. All the talk in the lead-up to the fixture was on the two players who had exchanged their home bases. And Round 1 went Jadeja’s way, as the left-arm spinner played a supporting role to the pacers to give Royals a winning start to the season. From the moment the coin fell their way, they hardly put a foot wrong. Their pace pack, led by Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger, set up the win in the Powerplay itself. Chasing 128 on a tacky pitch, Rajasthan didn’t blink. And leading their charge was 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who hit a 15-ball half-century. His 52 off 17 deliveries, comprising four boundaries and five sixes, made Chennai freeze. The two sixes off Noor Ahmad showed his continuing evolution. Could Rajasthan Royals offer captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja? Anil Kumble wonders | Cricket News

The headlines coming out from the IPL retention day was the trade between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals over Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson who swapped franchises ahead of the IPL mini auctions next month. Former India spinner Anil Kumble said that he was pretty surprised that Jadeja was let go from CSK and also wondered if the allrounder could be in line for the RR captaincy. “Ravindra Jadeja returning to Rajasthan Royals is a big move. Generally, CSK doesn’t let go of their players, especially someone of Jadeja’s quality who has had a long relationship with them. I was surprised they let him go. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson coming to CSK is certainly a great move for them,” Kumble said on IPL Retention Show on JioHotstar. “Interestingly, Jadeja has also taken a pay cut from 18 crore to 14 crore. The big question is about captaincy – could Rajasthan offer it to Jadeja? They need to find a new captain. They have several options – Riyan Parag led them in a couple of matches …

Why did Ravindra Jadeja take a pay-cut to leave Dhoni’s CSK and join Rajasthan Royals?

The release of Andre Russell into the auction pool, ending a 11-year association with Kolkata Knight Riders definitely came as headline grabber when the Indian Premier League’s retention deadline ended on Saturday. However, all said and done in a week where the IPL has seen trade window being active like never before, the biggest talking point among franchises remains around the swap deal involving Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran from Chennai Super Kings and Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals. In particular, there is shock and bewilderment around Jadeja heading to Rajasthan, which is where it all started for him in 2008, where the moniker “Rockstar” was given to him by Shane Warne. The move itself was a surprise – as the all-round package that he offers is a rarity that CSK are already finding hard to replace, having made various unsuccessful attempts. But beyond all of it, Rajasthan by letting go of a key player while having readymade replacements in Vaibhav Suryavanshi as opener and Dhruv Jurel as wicketkeeper, have filled two holes by bringing …

As part of the trade agreement, his league fee has been revised from INR 18 crore to INR 14 crore,” the IPL statement read.
