Janardhan Reddy said that the credit for realising the long-cherished dream of the Rayalaseema people — the construction of the steel plant — goes to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The TDP leader dared the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP Y.S. Avinaash Reddy for a debate on any issue regarding Rayalaseema’s projects and development. “We are also prepared to discuss the number of industries we brought to the region over the past two years,” the Minister said. Speaking to the media from his camp office at Banaganapalle on Saturday, Mr. Janardhan Reddy said the YSRCP, which failed to establish the steel plant during its five-year tenure, is now attempting to steal the credit. He alleged that the YSRCP leaders’ greed for commissions has created a situation in which industries that were prepared to set up their units in the State have fled. “Several industries, including Kia’s ancillary units and many others, for which groundbreaking ceremonies were …

Justice comes closer to Rayalaseema

Justice comes closer to Rayalaseema

The Andhra Pradesh government has expedited the process of setting up the High Court Bench in Kurnool and has identified buildings to accommodate 15 judges. It may be recalled that the State Assembly had passed a unanimous resolution for the setting up of a High Court Bench in Kurnool in November 2024. The government’s decision to set up a Bench in Kurnool has been welcomed by everyone in the Rayalaseema region, particularly those from the legal fraternity, especially given that the previous YSR Congress Party government, which had proposed Kurnool as the judicial capital, had failed to keep this promise due to various legal issues. Discontented with the YSRCP government, the legal fraternity had viewed its three-capital proposal as a political move to derail the grand project of Amaravati, the capital city mooted by N. Chandrababu Naidu when he was in power between 2014 to 2019. While former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had promised that the three capitals proposal would decentralise development, he was unable to implement it. Now, a High Court Bench in …

Former MLA urges State and Centre to renew FRCA of RDT

Former MLA and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Anantapur district president Anantha Venkatarami Reddy urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to renew the Foreign Contribution (Registration) Act (FCRA) of Rural Development Trust (RDT), which has been extending its services in various sectors since the last 55 years in the drought-hit Rayalaseema region, particularly in Anantapur. Speaking to the media in Anantapur on Sunday, the senior leader said that the services of RTD are not just limited to Anantapur, but extend across the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. “RDT is not affiliated to any religion or a region. It has been working for the upliftment of the poor and its existence is at stake as the Centre has kept the FCRA of the trust pending,” Mr. Venkatarami Reddy said. The RDT was set up by Spanish humanist Vincente Ferrer in 1969. After the death of Vincente Ferrer in 2009, it has been managed by his wife Anne Ferrer and son Moncho Ferrer. Mr. Venkatarami Reddy said that the trust is working …

A case of troubled waters

A case of troubled waters

The Andhra Pradesh government’s ambitious plan to link the waters of the Godavari and Krishna has become controversial. Touted by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu as a “game changer,” the Godavari-Banakacherla project aims to provide drinking water to 80 lakh people and ensure an additional 7.5 lakh acres of irrigated land. It is estimated to cost ₹80,112 crore and is expected to be completed in three years. The Telangana government has protested against the project. According to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, if any State wants to build a project on any river in these two States, it must inform the Godavari River Management Board and the Krishna River Management Board as well as the neighbouring State. Telangana argues that Andhra Pradesh took up the project without providing this information. The division of water resources has been a source of friction between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh ever since the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014. Telangana, which is upstream, asserts its right to use waters of the Krishna river for projects such as the Palamuru-Rangareddy …

Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan are working towards this goal. Mr. Rama Naidu examined the Madanapalle summer storage works, accompanied by senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders from the Annamayya and Chittoor districts. He reviewed the works and maps of the summer storage tank at Chippili on the outskirts of Madanapalle and instructed the officials to expedite the works and discussed water storage areas, land under the tank, among other issues. Speaking to the media later, the Minister said that the Chief Minister is prioritising the Irrigation Department, adding that while the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government had completed 90% of the work, intending to supply 3,850 cusecs of water through the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government did not complete the remaining 10%, resulting in no water flow in the canals. He further highlighted the issue of sand exploitation …
