After axing Brendon McCullum, England want RCB coach Andy Flower

3 min readJul 12, 2026 09:13 PM IST With Brendon McCullum sacked as England Test team coach, Andy Flower is emerging as a front-runner to replace him according to reports. The former Zimbabwe captain, who coached England previously, is currently busy as T20 coach in the franchise circuit, most notably with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, should Flower take up the red-ball duties with England, reports say he would be allowed to continue coaching in the IPL. According to Daily Mail, Flower is likely to take up the job only if he is allowed to carry on with his T20 gigs, particularly the IPL. Flower has been the head coach of England before from 2009 to 2014 during which time they won their first T20 World Cup in 2010 and won the Ashes Down Under in 2012. But after a whitewash in 2014, he ended up losing the job. “For me, the best person for that would be Andy Flower by a country mile. Flower took England to number one in the world,” former England captain …

3 min readUpdated: Jun 19, 2026 12:25 PM IST Virat Kohli’s association with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru isn’t coming to a close anytime soon. After a 17-year wait, Kohli and RCB achieved the double in the Indian Premier League, winning back-to-back titles in 2025 and 2026. And while the franchise’s ownership is set to change hands, Kohli’s relationship with RCB is expected to continue for at least another four years. “RCB and Virat are different sides of the same coin,” RCB Ceo Rajesh Menon said in an interaction with CNBC TV18. “He has been the constant factor for RCB throughout. We have not seen him not being part of RCB even if he moves out of his cricketing career. We have to figure out. “That said, next three to four years, I’m sure he’ll be playing…for at least four years. He is fit; the hunger never dies. You saw him this IPL season bring on the energy, runs, attitude….everything was there. Three to four years, absolutely no problem,” Menon added. There is one year remaining …

3 min readUpdated: Jun 4, 2026 09:36 AM IST Krunal Pandya was an integral part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) setup this season that succesfully defended their Indian Premier League (IPL) title. For both Pandya and RCB, there were significant milestones – RCB became just the third team to have won consecutive IPL titles, after famously having waited 17 years to win their first last season. For Pandya, this was the fifth time he had won the title, having won it four times in the past with the Mumbai Indians. It was also the second time he didn’t have his brother Hardik with him on the champions’ podium, with the latter instead having a forgettable season as captain of MI. Krunal and Hardik famously share a close relationship that has been seen on the cricket field a number of times in the IPL and with the Indian team. “Obviously, we have played together,” said Krunal in an interview with the Times of India. “We have always discussed cricket in terms of tactical, technical stuff …

Sanjay Manjrekar on Virat Kohli

Sanjay Manjrekar on Virat Kohli

2 min readJun 2, 2026 07:41 PM IST Royal Challengers Bengaluru talisman Virat Kohli continues to meet the demands of the modern T20 game. He altered his approach at the top of the order for RCB last season, holding the powerful batting together, and played a similar role once again this year. He scored 675 runs at an average of 165.84, and former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar lauded how Kohli improved his tempo while maintaining consistency. “At this stage, watching him in this tournament, he has mastered the art of T20 batting that is needed in IPL cricket. Which means now he knows that he has to score at a 150 to 160 strike rate. So he cashes in the first six overs. The most important thing is that he has found this power game, which is just about optimum. It’s almost like he is in third and fourth gear, while the others are trying to hit at a strike rate of 200 and 230,” Manjrekar said on his Instagram channel. “Because of that, there …

Not sure you win IPL at the auction, but you can certainly lose one there

Not sure you win IPL at the auction, but you can certainly lose one there

4 min readUpdated: Jun 1, 2026 06:45 PM IST Soon after Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their second successive IPL title, their all-rounder Krunal Pandya said the trophy was more or less won at the auction table two seasons ago. For a franchise that always came out with an imbalanced squad in the previous years, at the big auctions held before the 2025 season, they came back from the UAE with a strong, well-balanced team. Although there were doubts around the squad, in successive seasons, RCB have silenced the critics with their performance on the field. While head coach Andy Flower and captain Rajat Patidar have been at the centre of the revival, the arrival of Mo Bobat as the director of cricket is where it all started to change for the franchise. Soon after Bobat came on board, RCB roped in Flowers as coach, then opted for a change in captaincy and revamped their coaching personnel which includes Dinesh Karthik, Omkar Salvi among the likes. Asked about Pandya’s take, Bobat, downplayed it, but attributed the …

RCB coach Andy Flower on difference between 2025 and 2026 IPL titles: More confidence now

4 min readJun 1, 2026 06:07 PM IST Royal Challengers Bengaluru head coach Andy Flower had admitted there was a definite difference between their successive IPL title triumphs, saying in 2025 when they first lifted the trophy there was a lot of uncertainty and tension. Having won their first IPL title last year breaking the 18-year drought, RCB joined the likes of Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians as the third team to win the tournament twice in succession. While their performances last season itself was wholesome, this season from the start to finish, they played like a team that knew how to overcome challenging phases and emerge victorious. Having taken charge of RCB ahead of the 2024 season when they made the play-offs after a stuttering start to the season, Flower said it is a culmination of all three seasons. “Definite differences between 2025 and 2026 campaigns. But I would also mention the 2024 season, because that was instrumental in setting our determination to do things a little bit differently. The very tough first …

3 min readJun 1, 2026 05:33 PM IST Royal Challengers Bengaluru waited 17 years to win the Indian Premier League (IPL). And then, they suddenly had two trophies in two years. With the victory over Gujarat Titans on Sunday, RCB have become just the third team to have succesfully defender their IPL title, with the only other sides being Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, teams that Bengaluru have shared a rivalry with but never quite matched in terms of trophy count until now. RCB are still a long way from equalling MI or CSK’s records though – the latter two sides have won a record five titles each. Here we take a look at the two previous IPL finals in which a team won the trophy for a second consecutive time. 2011 IPL final: CSK beat RCB by 58 runs CSK had won the IPL for the first time in 2010 and in the next one year, the tournament went through a bit of a storm.
