Uber expands safety features in India with ambulance support, video recordings | Technology News

3 min readNew DelhiUpdated: Jun 30, 2026 02:47 PM IST Uber India has announced an expansion of its safety toolkit with the launch of encrypted video recording, ambulance assistance, seatbelt reminders, and other features aimed at making rides on its platform safer for both passengers and drivers. The ride-hailing giant’s ‘Record My Ride’ feature has been updated with opt-in video recording that activates automatically on all trips once enabled, with recordings being encrypted on-device and decryptable only by Uber upon a safety report. Earlier, the feature only came with an audio recording option. The company’s 24×7 safety line will now include ambulance assistance which can be requested by riders when medical attention is required. The average dispatch time of an ambulance is expected to be less than 15 minutes, as per Uber. Riders can also set their own verification pins and change it whenever needed. Salt-N-Pepa sue record label to reclaim rights to their recordings including ‘Push It’

Salt-N-Pepa are telling their record label not to push it as they fight for the rights to their music. Salt-N-Pepa sue record label to reclaim rights to their recordings including ‘Push It’ The groundbreaking duo behind hip-hop classics including 1983’s “Shoop” and 1987’s “Push It” say in a lawsuit that Universal Music Group is violating copyright law by refusing to agree to turn over the rights to their master recordings. Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton filed the lawsuit in federal court in New York on Monday asserting that the copyright act of 1976, which says that after several decades artists can terminate previous agreements and reclaim ownership of their recordings, clearly now applies to them. The fight, which has led to UMG pulling Salt-N-Pepa’s music from streaming services, comes as many artists with beloved legacies are making lucrative sales of their catalogs, while others get stuck in classic record-label battles over old contracts. “UMG has indicated that it will hold Plaintiffs’ rights hostage even if it means tanking the value of Plaintiffs’ music …

To curb practice of athletes approaching courts after selection trials, sports ministry to insist on recordings and to place an observer

To curb practice of athletes approaching courts after selection trials, sports ministry to insist on recordings and to place an observer

The sports ministry aims to curb the practice of disgruntled athletes moving court after selection trials by introducing an open and transparent selection process. The ministry will push for the trials that are recorded on camera and in the presence of an observer. The process will be done to avoid any kind of premeditated bias while selecting the teams. “All selection trials will be conducted on camera so that it is fair and square for all the athletes,” a ministry source said. Before every major event, such as the Asian Games and Olympics, multiple court cases are filed by athletes after the selection process. Athletes from sports like shooting and boxing have knocked on the door of the court before major tournaments such as the Olympics and World Championships. “Federation can’t exploit in the name of autonomy. Only selections based on merit and performance should matter. The observers will be from the Ministry and Officials of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and it will be implemented across all the sports,” the source added. Bid …

Truecaller has brought its call recording and artificial intelligence (AI)-powered transcription features to India. The feature was initially introduced in the US in June 2023, but after less than a year, the company is expanding it to more regions. Both Android and iOS users will be able to record incoming and outgoing calls and transcribe them using the help of AI. It is being added as a premium feature and will only be available to the paid users of the app. In an announcement, Truecaller stated that this feature will allow users to directly record calls within the app, and will eliminate the need to use any third-party app for call recordings. Further, the company has leveraged AI to also offer a transcription feature that will provide full transcription of the recorded calls, once the call has ended. Interestingly, the app used to offer call recording earlier, but had to discontinue after Google added restrictions for apps using an API designed for accessibility features to record calls. The call recording part works differently for both …
