‘Redundant use of resources’: Walkers Association opposes skating rink in Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park | Bangalore News
The Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association (CPWA) Sunday opposed the Karnataka government’s plan to construct a skating rink within Bal Bhavan premises inside Cubbon Park in Bengaluru. Recently, the Jawahar Bal Bhavan Society in association with the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) mooted a plan to build a skating rink on half acre of land at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore. S Umesh, President, CPWA, said a skating rink was entirely unnecessary in Cubbon Park. “A high-quality skating rink already exists at the Sri Kanteerava Stadium, situated just across the road from Cubbon Park. Constructing a second rink within the lung space of the city is a redundant use of resources that offers no additional public benefit while causing significant environmental harm,” he added. “For years, Cubbon Park has faced the creeping threat of urbanisation.
