Punjab: Sukhbir Badal re-elected as Shiromani Akali Dal president

Sukhbir Singh Badal was elected unanimously by SAD delegates, four months after he was forced to resign as party president by Akal Takht over ‘religious misconduct’. Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal is re-elected as the president of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Around 500 delegates of the Akali Dal, who were elected by the party members during its organisational polls, unanimously elected Sukhbir Badal as the party head on Saturday. Badal resigned from the post four months ago. The 68-year-old was first elected the party president in 2008. SAD’s election officer, Gulzar Singh Ranike, declared Badal’s name as the new president at a session held at the Teja Singh Samundari hall in the Sri Darbar Sahib complex in Amritsar. Shammi Silva has been re-elected as the president of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) at the 64th annual general meeting of the governing body on Monday. This marks his fourth consecutive term in office and the third time he has secured the position uncontested. He will be governing the body once again for the 2025-27 term said the SLC. Silva’s tenure was marred by his clash with former sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe in 2023. Rohan Jaitley has been appointed as the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) president for another term, beating former India player Kirti Azad in the polls. The 35-year-old Jaitley, son of former Union Minister late Arun Jaitley, secured 1,577 votes compared to Azad’s 777 in the race to the top position. As many as 2,413 votes were cast, and 1,207 votes were required to win. In 2020, Rohan was elected unopposed as DDCA president and a year later, he defeated advocate Vikas Singh. Shikha Kumar (1,246 votes), daughter of former acting BCCI president CK Khanna, defeated Rakesh Kumar Bansal (536) and Sudhir Kumar Agarwal (498) to claim the vice-president’s post. Ashok Sharma (893) became the secretary, while Harish Singla (1328) was elected for the treasurer’s post and Amit Grover (1189) won the joint secretary position. ‘Laadki Bahin impact’: Mahayuti’s Sunil Kamble re-elected from Pune Cantonment seat | Pune News

The Laadki Bahin scheme’s impact was felt across several Assembly constituencies in Maharashtra, including the Pune Cantonment. Having initially had to face infighting in the Congress, Ramesh Bagwe, the party loyalist and former minister, lost by 10,320 votes.
