Prominent industry leaders of West Bengal on Monday (June 22, 2026) welcomed the first budget of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the State presented by Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta, lauding its emphasis on industry, reconsidering land ceiling, infrastructure and healthcare. Mr. Dasgupta in the budget proposed deep-sea port at Dadanpatrabar in Purba Medinipur on a public-private basis, a greenfield airport on 1,000–1,500 acres near Kalyani to ease congestion at Kolkata airport, and a feasibility study for metro links between Durgapur–Asansol and Siliguri–Jalpaiguri. India calls for UNSC expansion, says lack of reform ‘constrains’ global body

India calls for UNSC expansion, says lack of reform ‘constrains’ global body Jaishankar made the remarks at a conclave of the foreign ministers of the BRICS nations in New Delhi. “We meet at a time when the effectiveness of global governance and the credibility of multilateralism are under increasing scrutiny,” he said. “The world today is more interconnected, complex, and multipolar than when many of our current institutions were created. Yet, the structures that underpin global governance have not kept pace with these changes,” he noted. Jaishankar listed four specific points to press for reforming the key international bodies and multilateral trading systems, and asserted that the reform of the United Nations and its subsidiary bodies remains “central”. “The membership of the United Nations has expanded significantly, and its responsibilities have grown. Yet, key structures, particularly the Security Council, …

Supreme Court on Sabarimala: Need to ensure social reform conforms to ‘lakshman rekha’, doesn’t hollow out religion | Legal News

Underlining the need to ensure that social reform measures conform to the “lakshman rekha” set by the legislature and do not hollow out a religion, the Supreme Court on Tuesday said courts may be compelled to interfere if any such reform is thrust upon people against their wish. “If the people of this country, through their elected representatives, raise a common voice that this issue requires social reform, probably the court will accept it as a social reform. But if it is against the wish and will of the people — something is thrust upon them or, as a rule of gagging them, maybe the court will interfere,” Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, presiding over a nine-judge bench, said. The bench also comprising Justices B V Nagarathna, M M  Sundresh, Ahsanuddin Amanullah, Aravind Kumar, Augustine George Masih, Prasanna B Varale, R Mahadevan and Joymalya Bagchi, is considering questions arising from petitions seeking review of the SC’s September 28, 2018, judgment striking down age restrictions on entry of women to the Sabarimala temple in Kerala. …

Quick Comment: Badminton’s disregard for tradition continues, new 15-point game scoring system is more confusion than reform | Badminton News

4 min readUpdated: Apr 25, 2026 10:05 PM IST Badminton continues to be callous with tradition, and keeps changing its scoring system – the 15×3 is the fourth such flip in the last 50 years. Some might say it’s far too much a stickler for tradition – 15×3 was used at its inception in 1873. On Saturday, the format was voted back overwhelmingly by a margin of 198-43, keeping in mind broadcast considerations and players’ health. The 21×3 will go out screaming and shouting, albeit after having prevailed through the golden generation of women’s singles, GOATs in men’s singles and the era of immense popularity for men’s doubles. 21×3 will also plead innocent to charges of causing injury an misery to shuttlers, and point the finger at badminton’s hectic schedule of mandatory tournaments for top players. At any rate, this itch to keep changing a scoring format is a sign of confusion, more than any evolved, coherent thinking. Because its many iterations have not brought out any significant changes to popularity, prize money or professionalism …

The Complete CBSE Reform Timeline for 2022–2026

The Complete CBSE Reform Timeline for 2022–2026

Over the past few academic cycles, CBSE has moved well beyond exam reform. The board shifted to on-screen evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets in early 2026, expanded digital infrastructure through DigiLocker and the APAAR ID system, among other things. Multilingual instruction, aligned with national education policy, was formally pushed to affiliated schools. Psychosocial counselling support was operationalised as a board-level initiative. Taken together, these changes took to system-level restructuring, not just a revision of how students are tested, but of how the board administers schooling itself. At the same time, changes in examination scheduling — particularly the introduction of two board exams for CBSE Class 10 from 2026 — are expected to directly affect result timelines. With phase 1 CBSE results scheduled as early as April and digital evaluation systems being scaled up, the board is positioned to declare outcomes earlier than in previous years. Together, these measures signal an attempt to reduce exam pressure, streamline evaluation, and align with the National Education Policy (NEP). Here’s a broad timeline of major changes announced by …

WTO talks on e-commerce duties moratorium deadlocked as reform plan nears deal| India News

By Olivia Le Poidevin WTO talks on e-commerce duties moratorium deadlocked as reform plan nears deal YAOUNDE, – WTO talks on extending a moratorium due to expire this month on customs duties for electronic transmissions such as digital downloads are deadlocked, diplomats said on Sunday, although a wider reform plan is nearing a deal. The talks at a World Trade Organization meeting in Cameroon include efforts to bridge differences between the U.S. and India over extending the e-commerce moratorium, which was first adopted in 1998 to help encourage early digital trade growth. In what is seen as a test for the WTO’s relevance, after a year of tariff-fuelled trade turmoil and major disruptions due to the Iran war, three diplomats told Reuters that ministers are stuck on extending the moratorium beyond more than two years following objections from Brazil. Ministers are debating a new draft document to extend negotiations by four years plus an additional buffer year to 2031, two diplomats said. E-COMMERCE DEADLOCK As well as Brazil’s objections, India and the U.S. have been …
