The protest, led by the Safai Sewak Mazdoor Union (Mohali), will continue “until the Punjab government accepts our demands”, the union leaders said. Among the key demands is the regularisation of sanitation workers recruited in 2021 and the abolition of the contractor-driven outsourcing model. The employees alleged that the government has failed to act despite submitting the memorandums for over four-and-a-half years. The union representatives said, “The dharna will continue till our demands are met. Karnataka Cabinet okays regularisation of 10 lakh properties in illegally constructed layouts | Bangalore News

In a move that would regularise 10 lakh plots, buildings, apartments and flats in illegally constructed layouts under various urban local bodies in one sweep, Karnataka’s Cabinet on Thursday decided to issue A khata certificates to such properties. The move, reminiscent of the Akrama-Sakrama scheme introduced in Bengaluru limits, which was stayed by the Supreme Court, will be applicable in all urban local bodies of the state except Bengaluru. According to the Government, the regularisation “aims to control unauthorized developments and bring citizen-friendly reforms and public interest into the administrative system”. Bringing the illegally constructed layouts under the purview of the law would stop “the creation and sale of sites without obtaining layout approval from the competent authorities”, said a Cabinet note on the issue. A scheme launched in the Greater Bengaluru Authority limits on November 1, 2025, provided a 100-day window to convert B-khata plots to A-khata plots on the payment of fixed conversion fees. The government had already extended it twice, first to April 30, and then to May 4. The initial deadline ended on March 31 for the rebate scheme which was launched on February 20 this year. As per the initial announcement, a 25% rebate was announced on the regularisation fee and open space charges if paid before the deadline, for the LRS announced in 2020. Applicants were given the option of paying pro-rata open space charges at the time of obtaining building permissions too, but they will have to be paid in full, without 25% rebate. A total 25.67 lakh applications were received from across the State in response …

Odisha land records regularisation initiative | From legacy displacement to land ownership

Janakram Pradhan, 81, remembers events in 1956 when the Odisha government had sent trucks to vacate Duanmunda village in Jharsuguda district. In one of India’s first major post-independence multipurpose river valley projects, the government was about to impound the Hirakud reservoir, formed as a result of damming the Mahanadi river. Duanmunda was one of the 19 villages in the district that were majorly hit. But less than a couple of kilometres away, at an elevation of 630-632 feet above the reservoir, were 3,231 acres acquired by the government, but not submerged. It was here that the villagers moved, continuing to call the area Duanmunda. Janakram and his family of 11 have lived here for 67 years, among others from the village, gradually building concrete houses. It was only in December 2023 that he received the patta (land deed) for 74 decimals of land (about 435 square feet).
