Mumbai civic polls: BJP wrests control of BMC; Shiv Sena (UBT) relegated to Opposition

In the second phase of local body elections held in Mumbai, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the highest number of seats in Mumbai, while Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) finished second and to take the position of a “strong” Opposition for the first time in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The BJP is leading with 89 seats, while its alliance partner Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena has 29 seats in the BMC. The Shiv Sena (UBT) has won 65 seats, the MNS has won six seats, and the Congress managed to survive with 24 seats. Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won three seats, and Sharad Pawar’s NCP won one seat. The surprising element was the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) winning eight seats, while the Samajwadi Party got two seats. With this the BJP and the Shiv Sena has crossed the half mark of 114.  “I am grateful for people’s trust. They have given a mandate for the agenda of development in this election, showing that they want development. I am proud of being …

Ipswich Town Relegated From Premier League After 3-0 Defeat To Newcastle

Ipswich Town Relegated From Premier League After 3-0 Defeat To Newcastle

Ipswich were relegated from the Premier League after slumping to a 3-0 defeat against Newcastle, while Chelsea kept alive their hopes of a top five finish with a 1-0 win over Everton on Saturday. Emblematic of the self-inflicted wounds that hampered Ipswich this season, Kieran McKenna’s side had Ben Johnson sent off in the 37th minute for two bookings in quick succession at St James’ Park. Newcastle’s Alexander Isak converted a penalty after Jacob Murphy was fouled by Julio Enciso in first half stoppage-time. Dan Burn‘s 56th-minute header doubled Newcastle’s lead and William Osula’s 80th-minute goal left Ipswich with no chance of beating the drop. Third-bottom Ipswich are 15 points behind fourth-bottom West Ham with four games left, ensuring their first season in the top-flight for 22 years will end with an immediate return to the Championship. Out of their depth among the Premier League elite, Ipswich have won just four of their 34 league games. Their relegation alongside Southampton and Leicester, who were both already condemned to the drop, means all three …

Jamie Vardy leaving Leicester after 13 years as club gets relegated from Premier League

Jamie Vardy leaving Leicester after 13 years as club gets relegated from Premier League

Jamie Vardy has announced that he will be leaving Leicester City after playing at the Premier League club for 13 years. The club was relegated from the Premier League. Vardy had helped the club clinch the Premier League title in 2016, defying preseason odds of 5,000-1. The club hailed Vardy’s influence at the club over the 13 years, calling him their “greatest ever player.” With the striker at the tip of the spear, the club had completed what will be one of the greatest underdog stories in sporting history. The 38-year-old former England international will depart at the end of the season. Just two days back, Vardy had posted a stinging rebuke of the club’s season so far, calling their season a “total embarrassment.” Vardy said there was “anger” but also “sadness” within him about the season where the club’s relegation was confirmed with five matches in EPL still to play. “Nine years ago, we did the impossible — we won the Premier League,” Vardy said in a video message on Instagram in which he …

Can Manchester United get relegated from the Premier League this season? | Football News

Ruben Amorim and Manchester United have been breaking record after record this season, with the only catch being that these milestones are not honorifics, but rather, the opposite. With just 10 wins and 15 losses 33 games into the season, the club is going through its worst season in Premier League history. Back in January, club boss Ruben Amorim called his side as being the ‘worst side’ in club history. Only one thing could make his claim come to life – Premier League relegation. The losses continue With the club’s recent form spiraling downward, it is to be seen whether Amorim can turn the tide in the final games and attempt for a finish in or near the 10th place mark. The Red Devils’ most recent game in the English top flight ended in defeat, as a 1-0 score agaist Wolves meant that the club is now winless in the competition since their 3-0 win over Leicester City in March. A wasteful United attack that failed to capitalize on chances paved the way for Wolves …

Leicester Relegated From The Premier League As Liverpool Close In On Title

Leicester Relegated From The Premier League As Liverpool Close In On Title

Leicester City were relegated from the Premier League as Liverpool moved to within one win of the title on Sunday with a 1-0 victory at the King Power. Trent Alexander-Arnold came off the bench to score the only goal 14 minutes from time as the Reds moved to the brink of a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title. Liverpool could be crowned champions on Wednesday should Arsenal lose at home to Crystal Palace. If the Gunners avoid defeat, Arne Slot’s men have the chance to seal the deal when Tottenham visit Anfield next Sunday. Leicester have not scored a single goal at home since December as nine consecutive defeats at the King Power have taken Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men down. Alexander-Arnold appears to be coming towards the end of his time at his boyhood club. The England international is reportedly close to joining Real Madrid when his contract expires at the end of the season. Unlike Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who have signed new deals in recent weeks to prolong their stay …

HOPS FC relegated to second division after a home defeat against Sribhumi

HOPS FC relegated to second division after a home defeat against Sribhumi

Relegation from Indian Women’s League 2024-25 was confirmed for HOPS FC, who suffered a 0-3 defeat at the hands of Sribhumi FC at the Ambedkar Stadium on Saturday. Goals from Apurna Narzary (24’), Sandra Atinga (79’), and Rimpa Haldar (84’) sealed a comfortable win for Sribhumi, who extended their unbeaten run to three matches. The first half ended 1-0 in the away side’s favour. Heading into the fixture, HOPS were embroiled in a tight relegation scrap involving Odisha FC and Nita FA. To stand any chance of survival, they needed to win both of their remaining matches. However, Saturday’s performance proved to be the final blow. HOPS remain at the bottom of the table with eight points from 13 games, making it mathematically impossible for them to climb out of the relegation zone — even if they win their final match against Sethu FC. Odisha FC is placed a rung above them at the seventh spot with 12 points from as many matches. Sribhumi, meanwhile, is on a high. With East Bengal already crowned champions, …

Southampton Relegated From Premier League With Seven Games To Go

Southampton Relegated From Premier League With Seven Games To Go

Southampton were relegated from the Premier League in record-setting time after a 3-1 defeat at Tottenham on Sunday ended their brief stay in the top-flight. Brennan Johnson struck twice in the first half and Mateus Fernandes’s late reply was too late to stop bottom of the table Southampton crashing back to the Championship. Beaten for the 25th time in 31 games, Southampton are the first Premier League team to be relegated with seven matches still to play. Ipswich and Derby were relegated with six games left in 1994-95 and 2007-08 respectively. Ivan Juric’s side are also still one shy of matching Derby’s 2007-08 record low Premier League total points of 11. Juric, whose team are without a win in their last seven league matches, admitted this week that avoiding the record low points tally is Southampton’s only target for the rest of their dismal season. “It’s a difficult day, a tough day but I see the fans, how they love their players and their team. It’s something incredible,” Juric said. “This experience has …

French giants Lyon relegated to Ligue 2 amid financial struggles | Football News

Lyon, who won the French title for seven successive seasons from 2001-02 to 2007-08, have been handed a provisional relegation to Ligue 2, the second division of French football, and will observe a transfer ban following an audit of their finances. The Direction Nationale du Controle de Gestion (DNCG, the body responsible for overseeing the finances of French football clubs) has informed the club that they must satisfactorily improve their financial situation before the end of the season or be forcibly demoted from Ligue 1. Lyon recently announced debts of £422 million and have now been banned from signing players, according to L’Equipe and Get French Football News. Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor majority owns Lyon through Eagle Football Holdings. He insisted a meeting with France’s National Directorate of Control and Management ‘went well’, but the watchdog seems to have disagreed. French journalist Romain Molina has also claimed that ‘all Lyon players are on sale’ in a bid to reduce the club’s debts. They have reportedly also lost control of their payroll. It would mark …

Fermin Lopez Double Earns Barcelona Win At Relegated Almeria

Young Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez struck twice to secure his team a hard-fought 2-0 win at Almeria on Thursday in La Liga. The 21-year-old reached 10 goals for the season in his breakthrough campaign on a night Barcelona struggled but eventually overcame their already-relegated opponents. In the hours before the game Spanish media reported Barcelona president Joan Laporta did not travel to the match in Almeria because he was unhappy with coach Xavi Hernandez’s pre-match comments. Xavi had highlighted the club’s financial difficulties in comparison to the strength of new Spanish champions Real Madrid. “They haven’t told me anything personally… we travelled with the sporting vice-president, more directors, all normally,” Xavi told reporters. “I said what I think is real, that we will fight for all the trophies, with a lot of hope, with ambition, but that the situation is not easy. “We are working very well, the club most of all, to change this situation.” In January, with the team struggling badly, the coach said he would leave at the end of …
