Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy remembered on death anniversary

Congress leaders and workers on Saturday remembered former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy as a leader of the people and as the prime mover behind major initiatives such as the Vizhinjam international seaport. Paying his tributes to Chandy in a Facebook post, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan said the former Chief Minister taught that it was the duty of every public activist to hold close the common people. Mr. Satheesan added that he was trying to model himself on Chandy as he now occupies the Chief Minister’s chair. At a function organised at the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram to mark Chandy’s death anniversary, Electricity Minister and KPCC president Sunny Joseph said no other political organisation can claim to have had a leader like Chandy, who travelled the length and breadth of the State and communicated with the people. For him, ‘Janasambarkam’ was not just an official mass connect programme, but part of his daily life, Mr. Joseph said. Former KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran said that it was Chandy who transformed the Kerala Students’ …

He had a +3 advantage over Praggnanandhaa. Then this IITian remembered who he was playing | Chess News

4 min readUpdated: May 4, 2026 09:24 PM IST Shoan Raj has shown the image to at least 30 people. It is a screenshot from a chess game, taken at move 11. It shows that Shoan — a third year Electrical Engineering student at IIT Delhi and captain of its chess team — had a +3 advantage over Praggnanandhaa, one of the strongest grandmasters in the country. A +3 advantage in chess is the equivalent of having an extra bishop or knight over your opponent — or three additional pawns on the board. A position most players would convert without thinking twice.Shoan did not convert it. “If it were any other opponent in front of me, I wouldn’t even think twice before playing the correct move,” he says. “But simply because I was facing Pragg, I felt like he’d played some trick. So I didn’t capitalise. There is a mental factor attached to playing one of the best players in India.” He fumbled. Pragg won. The screenshot remains — a document of the moment a …

Priyadarshan says Aditya Dhar has created ‘historic revolution’ with Dhurandhar: ‘He will be remembered like Sholay’s makers’ | Bollywood News

Among the many celebrities who have stepped forward to laud Aditya and the spy actioner’s team is ace filmmaker Priyadarshan, who has been endorsing the franchise since the first installment’s release in December 2025. Pointing out that the Dhurandhar movies have thrown Bollywood out of gear, Priyadarshan recently noted that Aditya proved that success is tied solely to the director’s conviction, not to any conventional norms stipulated by the industry. “Today, Aditya is motivating me. I never taught him anything, but he learnt while working. He is motivating me through his work,” he said during a conversation with Hindustan Times. For the unversed, Aditya served as a dialogue writer in Priyadarshan’s films Aakrosh (2010) and Tezz (2012) before making it big in the …

On this day: Sachin Tendulkar played his last ODI, now remembered for Virat Kohli’s masterclass against Pakistan | Cricket News

3 min readMar 18, 2026 07:29 PM IST It’s fitting in a way that Sachin Tendulkar’s last ODI appearance, on this day 14 years ago, coincided with his heir apparent firmly taking on the mantle of India’s batting talisman. Virat Kohli already had Hobart – the unbeaten 133 off 86 balls against Sri Lanka helping India chase down 320 well inside 40 overs, keeping alive their hopes of making the tri-series final. The way the youngster dealt with the menace of Lasith Malinga – still a formidable force with his speed, yorkers, deception and change of pace – was a sight to behold. The Slinger went for 96 runs in just 7.4 overs that day. But the knock against Pakistan 18 days later in Dhaka, where the Delhi boy’s mammoth 183 off 148 balls helped the team chase down 329 with more than two overs to spare, firmly gave him the moniker ‘chase master’. It wasn’t known then but Tendulkar’s innings of 52 off 48 balls turned out to be his last in ODI cricket, …

Drunk Raj Kapoor called Dev Anand at 2 am, demanding to watch Guide, cried over the phone: ‘He remembered nothing the next day’ | Bollywood News

Raj Kapoor is widely regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of Indian cinema. For many in the industry, a word of praise from him would have been nothing short of a dream come true. A similar moment presented itself in the life of actor-writer-director Vijay Anand—popularly known as Goldie Anand—the younger brother of legendary actor Dev Anand. However, in a rather strange turn of events, Raj Kapoor reportedly never acknowledged Vijay Anand in person, despite praising him profusely behind his back prompting Vijay to believe he was ‘insecure’. The incident took place around the release of Vijay Anand’s fifth film, Guide—an adaptation of RK Narayan’s 1958 novel The Guide. While the English-language version of the film, failed at the box office, the Hindi adaptation went on to become a landmark in Indian cinema. Recently, Mohan Churiwala, one of Dev Anand’s closest friends and associates, recalled the episode in a conversation with Vickey Lalwani. Recounting what Vijay Anand once told him, Churiwala said, “Goldie sahab shared this story with me. He said …
