A popular Pakistani international kabaddi player, Ubaidullah Rajput, faces the prospect of a severe disciplinary action after he appeared for an Indian team in a private tournament in Bahrain on December 16. Ubaidullah found himself in big trouble after videos and pictures of him wearing Indian shirt and waving the Indian flag in the GCC Cup went viral. The secretary of the Pakistan Kabaddi Federation, Rana Sarwar, said an emergency meeting of the PKR had been called on December 27 in which the matter would be discussed and decision taken on disciplinary action against Rajput and some other players. “I can confirm it was a private event with private teams formed under the names of India, Pakistan, Canada, Iran etc. in the competition by the organisers. Noted criminal lawyer Utkarsh Dave, who is representing the victims of the Morbi bridge tragedy as well as the Harni boat tragedy, on Sunday lodged an FIR against unidentified international callers for “issuing threats to eliminate him”, should he “continue to appear for the case in the Sessions court.” Dave, who has been granted police protection by the Supreme Court with regard to the October 2022 Morbi tragedy, lodged the FIR at Maninagar police station in Ahmedabad under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section pertaining to criminal intimidation. The caller, though, “did not give reference” to the exact case for which the threat was being made, according to Dave’s complaint.
