Madhavan says he refused son Vedaant’s request to ‘spend quality time’: ‘I’m not a cosmetic dad’  | Bollywood News

R. Madhavan has often spoken with pride about his son Vedaant Madhavan, who has made a name for himself in competitive swimming and dreams of winning an Olympic gold medal for India one day. The actor has frequently shared how deeply involved he is in his son’s journey. However, Madhavan once opened up about why he does not believe in being a “cosmetic father” who is physically present at every school event. In a conversation with Rannvijay Singha for Mashable, Madhavan called the idea of spending “quality time” with children a Western concept and said he believes parenting is more about values and emotional support than appearances. “There will never be enough time to spend with your kids. I think this is a very Western concept that I have to spend quality time with the kids and everything. Dwayne Bravo enters RCB dressing room with a heartfelt request after Virat Kohli reminds of the inevitable

What a pleasure it was to hear Virat Kohli talk last night. It’s a privilege fans rarely get these days given his limited appearances on the cricket field. The captaincy days, when hearing him speak at least twice during a match was a given, are long gone. These days, it feels more like a luxury than a regularity. A breath of fresh air, truly. As he opened his heart about being in love with batting, love with the game, he also casually reminded everyone that he does not have long left before his career winds up. Kohli will, in all probability, retire from all formats for India after next year’s World Cup and, at best, continue for a couple more years with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dwayne Bravo hugs Virat Kohli inside RCB dressing room (Screengrab) The clock is ticking fast. Savour every bit of him. It may be a long while before another athlete comes even close to matching his aura. Forget the fans, even cricketers who have …

India seeks to join IEA: Why its request for membership is not a straightforward process | Explained News

At its recent annual ministerial meeting in Paris last week, the International Energy Agency (IEA) welcomed the progress being made on India’s request for full membership of the organisation. As of now, India is an associate member of the Paris-based agency, which is a leading intergovernmental body that works on energy security, global energy policy, and, now increasingly, on climate change and energy transitions. But India’s request for membership is not straightforward. It would require IEA to amend its founding legal framework which restricts membership only to OECD countries. We explain. IEA was created in 1974 as one of the responses to the global oil crisis, triggered by the decision of the major Arab oil producing countries to impose an embargo on oil supplies to countries that were seen to be supporting Israel during the Yom Kippur War the previous year. The embargo had led to unprecedented rise in oil prices and fuel scarcity. The crisis exposed the vulnerability of major industrial countries, which also happened to be the biggest consumers of oil. These countries, …
