Latest rule changes require drivers to balance speed with the demands of energy management

4 min readNew DelhiFeb 23, 2026 10:19 PM IST Imagine a world where Fernando Alonso never overtook Michael Schumacher at Suzuka, 2005 as he took his foot off the pedal a bit early to conserve energy, or where a young Max Verstappen never roared past Nico Rosberg at Interlagos, 2016 because the engine couldn’t handle it. Formula One’s regulations have undergone a big change but as with every rule alteration, it’s not come without controversy. There is panic in the paddock over how difficult overtaking might be during this season with ‘energy management’ becoming a concern for multiple drivers. It takes time to iron out all the wrinkles after a massive rule change, but some drivers don’t think this new era has begun on the right foot. New rules have been introduced for the chassis, engines and tyres, along with the adoption of sustainable fuel. The restructured engines now feature a near-equal balance between internal combustion and electrical components. Crucially, they deliver three times the electrical power than was there last year, despite utilizing a …

Maharashtra to require housing society consent for liquor shops, says Ajit Pawar

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister (CM) Ajit Pawar on Wednesday announced that shops selling Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) or country liquor must secure mandatory consent from registered housing societies before operating from commercial spaces within their premises, reported news agency PTI. Pawar, who heads the excise department, has directed that the policy be enforced statewide. “Permission from registered housing societies will now be compulsory for both categories of liquor shops. The policy must be enforced uniformly throughout Maharashtra,” Pawar told the Lower House of the state legislature while responding to a question raised by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Shankar Jagtap, who represents the Chinchwad Assembly Constituency in Pune District.  Jagtap sought cancellation of the licences of liquor shops operating in the Chinchwad-Kalewadi area of Pune, reported PTI. During the discussion, he said that Vikrant Wine, a liquor shop in Sahyadri Society, had begun operations in violation of norms. The building was incomplete when permission was granted, and the licence had been issued on the basis of incomplete documents, Jagtap said, demanding action against those responsible.  …

In early January, the requirement will expand to other countries where you’re able to use Roblox’s chat. After going through the age estimation process, Roblox will assign users into groups: Under 9, 9–12, 13–15, 16–17, 18–20, and 21 plus. Users will only be able to talk to users in their same group “and similar age groups as appropriate,” Roblox VP Rajiv Bhatia said in a briefing. Aardvark Weather AI-Powered Weather Forecasting System Unveiled, Does Not Require Supercomputers

Aardvark Weather, an artificial intelligence (AI) system for weather forecasting that offers several advantages over traditional methods, was unveiled on Thursday. The fully AI-driven system is said to be capable enough to replace the existing systems that require custom supercomputers and a team of experts to deliver predictions. It is also said to improve prediction accuracy and speed, and provide hyperlocal forecasts. A large group of researchers from academic institutions and tech companies worked together to develop the AI system. “You Might Not Require” Chopra Reckons Jaiswal’s Future in Champions Trophy 2025

Aakash Chopra said he believes India might not require the services of youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Champions Trophy 2025 and also reckoned that the opener could lose his place in the provisional squad. The former opener stated that the batting order looks settled and spoke about Bumrah’s injury concerns. He feels that injury concerns might force the team to make wholesale changes to get their combination right. Jaiswal made his ODI debut in the first match of a three-match ODI series in England’s tour of India 2025. The left-handed batter opened alongside Rohit Sharma while Shubman Gill at No.3 and Shreyas Iyer at No.4 in the absence of an injured Virat Kohli. He scored only 15 runs and was dropped Jaiswal for the second game when Virat Kohli returned to playing 11 for the second ODI in Cuttack. “The batting order is looking set. Rohit has started scoring runs. Shubman Gill is our vice-captain, and he is in good form. Virat Kohli will eventually return to form. Even if he doesn’t, god forbid, India …

HDMI 2.2 will be announced next month — and it may require a new cable

HDMI 2.2 will be announced next month — and it may require a new cable

The group behind the HDMI standard, HDMI Forum, says that it will detail a new spec release in a press conference on January 6th that will enable “a wide range of higher resolutions and refresh rates.” The new capabilities will be “supported with a new cable,” according to the HDMI Forum’s email to The Verge announcing the presser. The spec is likely to be HDMI 2.2, as VideoCardz notes. The Forum’s email hints at it too, noting that the HDMI Licensing Administrator, which two of the planned speakers at the event represent, is appointed “to license Version 2.2 of the HDMI specification.” HDMI 2.1, which has only ever received lettered revisions since its 2017 introduction, supports 48Gbps bandwidth, up to 120Hz variable refresh rates, and resolutions up to 10240 x 4320. VideoCardz speculates that the updated spec could allow for higher resolutions and framerates without the need for Display Stream Compression. Whatever the spec brings, that mention of a new cable is a tidy reminder that like USB-C, not all HDMI cables are the same. …
