Air India cuts international flights till August 2026 due to high fuel prices and airspace restrictions

Air India on Wednesday announced a temporary rationalisation of its international flight schedule from June to August 2026 due to continued airspace restrictions over certain regions and record-high jet fuel prices that have affected the commercial viability of several operations. The national carrier said the adjustments are aimed at ensuring network stability and minimising last-minute disruptions for passengers. Despite the cuts, Air India will continue to operate more than 1,200 international flights every month, maintaining a robust global presence across five continents. This includes 33 weekly flights to North America, 47 to Europe, 57 to the United Kingdom, eight to Australia, 158 to the Far East, Southeast Asia and SAARC regions, and seven to Mauritius in Africa. Is the use of satellite phones banned in India? Restrictions explained| India News

A US national was arrested at Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar airport on Sunday, due to having a satellite phone in his possession. This is not the first time that a foreign national has been arrested for possession of a satellite phone in India. (Representative image) Another person, who was accompanying the US national, was also detained at the airport but was apparently let go after interrogation. This is not the first time that a foreign national has been arrested for possession of a satellite phone in India. But this begs a question: Is the use of such devices banned in the country? And if so, why? Are satellite phones banned in India? While satellite phones are not “banned” in India in the sense of being entirely illegal, their use is heavily restricted. According to the Telecommunications Act 2023, a satellite phone cannot be legally operated in the country without a prior license or a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Even after that, only satellite services provided by BSNL (Inmarsat) are …

No supply restrictions, says Kerala State Electricity Board

No supply restrictions, says Kerala State Electricity Board

Although electricity demand is running high this summer, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is not contemplating restrictions on power supply, KSEB chairperson and managing director Minhaj Alam said after a meeting held on Friday to assess the power situation. “This time the demand is high. But we have made all the arrangements for supply from central stations and purchases through power exchanges,” Mr. Alam said. The KSEB is also exploring options to procure power through the term-ahead market (TAM). According to him, peak demand touching 6,000 megawatts (MW) this season was not unexpected. On April 14, Kerala’s peak electricity demand had touched 6012 MW, an all-time high for the State. New survey to shift India-Pakistan fencing could end decades of BSF restrictions

New survey to shift India-Pakistan fencing could end decades of BSF restrictions

Farmers living along the India–Pakistan border in Punjab have welcomed the Centre’s decision to conduct a survey aimed at shifting border fencing closer to the international boundary. If implemented, the move will bring major relief to farmers long forced to cultivate their crops across the fence under tight BSF restrictions including limited farming hours and repeated security checks. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann recently said letters have been issued to deputy commissioners (DCs) of border districts — Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Fazilka, and Ferozepur — to conduct surveys and assess how close the fencing can be moved to the International Border (IB). Punjab shares a 532-km border with Pakistan, which is secured by a barbed wire fence. Considering the terrain and topography, the distance between the fence and the IB varies from a few feet at some places to nearly 2 km at others. As per an estimate, nearly 21,500 acres of land belonging to Punjab’s farmers and another 10,000 acres of the government lies between the fence and the IB. BSF mans the …

Sabarimala Temple row: Government of India supports temple restrictions

The Centre on Thursday backed the restriction on the entry of women of menstruating age into Kerala’s Sabarimala temple, saying that the top court’s 2018 judgement proceeds on the assumption that men are superior and women are on a lower pedestal.  A nine-judge Constitution bench is hearing petitions related to discrimination against women at religious places, including the Sabarimala temple in Kerala, and on the ambit and scope of religious freedom practised by multiple faiths. The top court said that everybody must have access to all temples. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. US Lifts Restrictions on India Using Stranded Russian Crude to Stop Global Price Hike

US Lifts Restrictions on India Using Stranded Russian Crude to Stop Global Price Hike

3 min readMar 6, 2026 11:09 PM IST The United States said it will allow “our friends in India” to take Russian oil already at sea near southern Asia, refine it, and release the supply into the market to ease pressure on global oil flows during the ongoing West Asia conflict. The move follows a temporary 30-day waiver that permits Indian refiners to buy Russian crude currently stranded on ships, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said. “We have implemented short-term measures to help keep oil prices down. We are allowing our friends in India to take oil that is already on ships, refine it, and move those barrels into the market quickly. A practical way to get supply flowing and ease pressure,” Energy Secretary Chris Wright said in a post on his X handle. In an interview with ABC News Live, Wright said long-term oil supplies remain “abundant” but the market needs additional barrels in the short term. “But as oil gets bid up a little bit because of those constraints coming out of the Strait …
