An Assam Rifles Company Operating Base (COB) in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district came under fire from armed insurgents on Monday, triggering a fierce exchange of fire, officials said. According to sources, the COB located at Ranglum village in Changlang district was fired upon from multiple directions. The remote border village lies close to the India-Myanmar border, near international border pillar number 168. Assam Rifles troops retaliated effectively, and the counter-insurgency operation is still underway, the sources said, adding that no injuries or fatalities have been reported so far from either side. Additional forces have been deployed in and around the area, while the region has been cordoned off and the operation further intensified to neutralise the armed insurgents. A senior police official said that police teams have rushed to the border areas to gather further details. However, the identity of the militant group involved is yet to be confirmed, as detailed information is awaited from the Assam Rifles. Manipur: Assam Rifles seizes illegal betel nuts worth Rs 1.7 crore at Noney

Assam Rifles on Wednesday seized a large consignment of illegal betel nuts during an operation conducted along State Highway MN-06 in the Noney district of Manipur, news agency ANI reported. Acting on specific intelligence regarding the illegal movement of betel nuts, Assam Rifles launched an operation on Tuesday. During the search, troops recovered and seized 560 bags of betel nuts, each weighing 100 kg. The total quantity seized was 56,000 kg (56 metric tonnes), with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 1.7 crore, reported ANI, quoting officers.  The seized contraband has been handed over to the divisional forest officer (DFO), Noney, for further legal action in accordance with existing procedures. Imphal/New Delhi: A two-year-old girl from a poorly connected remote village in Manipur’s Kamjong district was rescued and airlifted by the Assam Rifles on Monday, a statement said. The little girl, Miss Chuishut, a resident of Grihang village, which is located in one of the most inaccessible parts of Manipur, accidentally fell into a water tank at 5.40 am on Monday. Given the remoteness of the village with no proper roads leading to it, the residents had little hope for timely medical support, it said. The situation changed when the Assam Rifles on getting a distress call rushed soldiers and medical personnel to the village immediately, the statement said. They managed to reach the village just in time and stabilised the child with first aid. Next, the soldiers called in a military helicopter for evacuation to the Assam Rifles Military Hospital in the state capital Imphal, the statement said.
