Assam Rifles said the paramilitary force, in coordination with the Border Security Force and Manipur Police, commenced a large-scale search operation in the Nungshang area on Friday (July 10, 2026). “The joint force is conducting intensive combing operations in residential areas, vulnerable routes and surrounding forests to trace the perpetrators, recover hidden caches and ensure the safety of local residents,” the paramilitary force said. Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed on Monday in an ambush carried out by unknown armed persons in Manipur’s Ukhrul distict, officials said. The deceased were identified as warrant officer Balwant Singh and Rifleman CM Singh. Assam Rifles on Wednesday seized a large consignment of illegal betel nuts during an operation conducted along State Highway MN-06 in the Noney district of Manipur, news agency ANI reported.
