LPG prices go up by ₹60 as Iran-US war sends ripples across the world| India News

Energy supply disruptions due to the war in West Asia have hit the common man as State-run oil marketing companies on Saturday raised cooking gas prices across the country by ₹60 per 14.2 kg cylinder, taking the price of domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders in Delhi to ₹913 — the highest retail price since August 2023. Photo for representation (AFP) According to industry executives, the current rate hike reflects a partial transmission of the impact caused by an energy supply crunch in West Asia after the war in the region disrupted tanker movement through the Strait of Hormuz. This triggered a surge in benchmark Brent crude prices to $94.64 a barrel in Friday’s session before settling at $93.32, a nearly 27% jump in just one week. Similarly, halting of liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Qatar saw Asian spot LNG prices surging more than double from about $10 per metric million British thermal unit (mmBtu) to about $25 mmBtu. After Humayun Kabir’s outfit, why a new party is creating ripples

About two months after rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir broke away from the ruling party in West Bengal to float his own outfit, Janata Unnayan Party (JUP), another prominent Muslim leader Syed Ruhul Amin has now launched the Jatiya Unnayan Party (JUP). “We aim to represent not only just Muslims but all those belonging to backward classes, irrespective of religion. We feel these sections are neither adequately represented nor their demands are addressed by existing political parties in the state. That is why there is a need for a new party,” Amin told The Indian Express over the phone from Purba Medinipur. While Amin’s JUP shares its acronym with Kabir’s JUP, the two parties seem to share little else in common. While Kabir’s outfit is largely based in Murshidabad district, Amin’s party, floated on February 9, is looking to set up its base in Purba Medinipur as he is the Peerzada or cleric of the Pratappur Darbar Sharif in the district. Both the JUPs have been floated in the run-up to the state …

The public declaration has triggered political, personal and family-level speculation, bringing the powerful Yadav family back into the spotlight for reasons far removed from electoral politics. In an Instagram post that has since gone viral, Prateek accused Aparna of destroying his family relationships and being driven solely by ambition and the pursuit of power and influence. Calling her “selfish” and a “bad soul”, Prateek said his mental condition was “very bad” and alleged that Aparna showed no concern for him, caring only about herself. “It was my misfortune to marry her,” …

Trump’s Trade War Ripples Through Business World, Hits Stocks Again

Trump’s Trade War Ripples Through Business World, Hits Stocks Again

Washington: The ripple effects of Donald Trump’s global trade war are increasingly being felt across numerous industries all at once and on Wednesday were once again exerting pressure on U.S. stock markets that have been roiled for weeks by his erratic trade policies. Stocks fell broadly, with tech stocks hit particularly hard after bellwethers like Nvidia that are highly tied into the world’s supply chain warned of hits to their bottom line. Meanwhile, airlines said they are bracing for an uncertain summer travel season, and the head of the Federal Reserve noted slowing economic activity – but also cast a wary eye on the threat that tariffs pose to its goal of lowering inflation. And though Trump has said numerous countries are lining up to make deals with the United States, the progress has been slow and uncertain. The president was set to engage personally in talks with Japan over tariffs later on Wednesday. While the market volatility that erupted two weeks ago has ebbed, business leaders still say the uncertainty is stalling spending plans. …

XRP, a token linked to Ripple Labs Inc., has vaulted rivals to become the third-largest cryptocurrency in a $100 billion rally. XRP becomes the third-largest cryptocurrency in a $100 billion rally after Donald Trump’s win The token rose as much as 32% on Monday to $2.87. In the process its market capitalization topped $154.6 billion, up from less than $30 billion on Nov. 5, when Donald Trump emerged victorious in the US presidential election, according to CoinGecko data. The latest price spike was driven by continued overseas buying, primarily in South Korea, as well as short liquidations on futures exchanges, according to Edward Chin, co-founder of Parataxis Capital. About $60 million in XRP short positions were liquidated in the last 24 hours, which was more than short liquidations for Bitcoin and Ether combined. “The move seems to be entirely retail driven as nothing has fundamentally changed for XRP itself,” Chin said. “The move looks to be excessive given XRP is now a top-three digital asset, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t continue given the …

TMC MLA proposes to make Abhishek Banerjee deputy CM; sends ripples in party | Kolkata

Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislator Humayun Kabir’s proposal to make party MP Abhishek Banerjee as the West Bengal’s deputy chief minister and the home minister has sent ripples within the party with a section of the TMC’s old guards criticising him. TMC MLA proposes to make Abhishek Banerjee deputy CM; sends ripples in party “In the 2026 assembly elections, we will fight under the umbrella of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. Let her become the chief minister for the fourth time. But the coronation of Abhishek Banerjee is also necessary. I want to see Abhishek Banerjee as the state’s chief minister and the state home minister,” Kabir said while speaking to the media. Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, is often seen as her heir apparent. He is the party’s National general secretary. “It would be good if the state gets a full-time home minister. It would be good for both the state administration and the party,” said Kabir. Sandeshkhali Ripples Spread, BJP Protesters Clash With Police In Bengal’s Basirhat

Kolkata: The political storm over the events at Bengal’s Sandeshkhali sparked violence in another part of the state on Tuesday. BJP workers, led by the party’s state chief Sukanta Majumdar, clashed with the police in Basirhat after being stopped from holding a protest. The police said the protesters threw stones at them and there is video footage to identify those involved. Several policemen have been injured in the violence. Mr Majumdar had taken a local train in the morning, anticipating police blockades to prevent him from reaching Basirhat, an area in the same north 24 Parganas district, where prohibitory orders banning large gatherings is in place. As the police lathicharged the protesters and fired tear gas shells to disperse them, they retaliated with stones. The clash took place outside the office of the local Superintendent of Police. Sukanta Majumdar claimed it was the police who used batons first, without provocation.  “First, the police launched a lathicharge, it then pelted stones and later tear gas shells were used on our workers. Then, our workers were arrested,” …

Astronomers Detect Seismic Ripples In Oldest Known Spiral Galaxy

The findings have been published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. A recently captured image of a distant, ancient galaxy may contribute to scientists’ comprehension of its formation and shed light on the origins of our Milky Way. BRI 1335-0417, aged over 12 billion years, stands as the oldest and most distant spiral galaxy identified in our universe. Dr. Takafumi Tsukui, the primary author, highlighted that the advanced ALMA telescope enabled them to scrutinize this ancient galaxy with significantly enhanced detail, according to Phys.org.  “Specifically, we were interested in how gas was moving into and throughout the galaxy,” Dr. Tsukui said. “Gas is a key ingredient for forming stars and can give us important clues about how a galaxy is fueling its star formation.” In this instance, the researchers not only succeeded in recording the movement of the gas surrounding BRI 1335-0417 but also unveiled the formation of a seismic wave groundbreaking discovery for this early type of galaxy. The findings have been published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical …
