Rishabh Pant’s ‘too many minds’ comment threw LSG management under the bus, says Shaun Pollock | Cricket News

3 min readApr 27, 2026 04:36 PM IST Former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock slammed Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant’s comments that had hinted at too many decision-makers in the camp following their sixth defeat of the IPL 2026 season on Sunday night. Pant’s men suffered yet another embarrassing defeat after they failed to chase down a 156-run target at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, handing Kolkata Knight Riders a pulsating Super Over win despite a sluggish start after being sent into bat. Post the defeat, a fifth in succession and an eighth consecutive loss at home, Pant hinted that there were too many opinions being fed to him from a vaunted coaching set-up. Reflecting on the decision to bowl spinner Digvesh Rathi in the final over, during which KKR batter Rinku Singh slammed him for four consecutive sixes, Pant said: “See, there are always times in cricket where you can turn a little bit of bowling at the same time. But sometimes bowlers have to bowl those hard overs. ALSO READ | ‘Rishabh …

ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEO SRH continued to play catch-up in the game after a stunning burst of Mohammed Shami’s new ball bowling, supported by other bowlers, which reduced the hosts to 35/4 after the first 10 overs at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium in Hyderabad. Comeback men Shami-Pant soar Mohammed Shami silenced the Hyderabad crowd with his masterfully planned new ball burst when he gave the famed SRH top order nothing to drive, and mixed up his hard-length seam-up deliveries with clever slower ones. He started with in-swinging deliveries into Travis Head, giving him no room whatsoever. The Aussie managed to sneak a single off the fourth ball, and Shami cleverly floated one up outside the off-stump to Abhishek Sharma off the final delivery. Sharma tried to hit the ball as …

‘There were times where we had our chances to make the playoffs’: LSG captain Rishabh Pant | Ipl News

Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant said that there were various points of the season where they could have qualified for the IPL playoffs but the inability to take these opportunities cost the team in the long run. LSG has had a rather inconsistent season but on Thursday they showed what they were capable of when in full flow when they defeated Gujarat Titans by 33 runs. “We talk about playing good cricket, we’ve shown on occasion we can do that. There were times in the tournament where we had our chances to make the play offs (but didn’t make it), but it’s part and parcel of the game,” Pant after the GT match. “Coming into the tournament, there were lot of injury concerns. We made sure it’s something we wouldn’t talk about it. The whole batting unit has played, we lacked a bit on the fielding side. We can’t make excuses, just want to learn and move on,” he added. What let LSG down? Rishabh Pant and pace bowlers | Ipl News

As the curtains came down for Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium on Monday, Rishabh Pant trudged himself to the dugout with bowed head before he pulled off his gloves with a wry smile. On the night he had seen his batsmen put up another good show, which although looked incomplete seemed fine, before the holes in Lucknow’s bowling resurfaced to drag them down. That they were only the fifth team to be eliminated in itself was credible as all along they have carried an attack without any bite. But invariably, the cameras were all trained on Pant. Not without reasons, though. He had already made a rallying cry to not single him out for his team’s performances. “Every time if you take out the individual, it’s not the right thing to do,” he had said earlier. However, through the course of this season, Pant has given enough reasons to be the talking point. The costliest player ever at the auction, purchased for Rs 27 crore, his move from Delhi Capitals to Lucknow – …

‘He would be first one to say that he hasn’t had a season that he would have liked’: Mitchell Marsh on Rishabh Pant | Ipl News

Record IPL signing and Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant has had a season to forget with LSG getting knocked out from the playoffs contention by Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. Pant, who has scored 134 runs in 12 games, never seemed to find his footing this season, striking at 100 with an average of 12.27. “He would be the first one to say that he hasn’t had a season that he would have liked, but I know for myself personally that that’s the way cricket goes sometimes,” his teammate Mitchell Marsh, who has tallied 443 runs so far with five half-centuries told reporters after the match vs SRH. “We know that he’s a fantastic player, highly skilled and highly talented, so he will be back, but yeah, hopefully the last two games,” he added. Kris Srikkanth to LSG: Your season is over, rest Rishabh Pant for the remaining IPL matches | Ipl News

Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has called on Lucknow Super Giants to rest Rishabh Pant for their remaining fixtures in the ongoing IPL after the franchise was knockout of play-off contention by Sunrisers Hyderabad. In a season where Lucknow have been ravaged by injuries, Pant who was bought at the player auctions for a record Rs 27 crore has endured a season to forget. Captaining the side, he has posted only one fifty as he was dismissed for 7 on Monday. Having began his captaincy stint with a zero against his former franchise Delhi Capitals, Pant has touched two-figure score only thrice in 11 innings. His scores this season read: 0, 15, 2, 2, 21, 63, 3, 0, 4, 18 and 7. While he initially didn’t show signs of struggling for form, as the tournament progressed, there were no signs of improvement. There have been questions as to whether the price tag added to the pressure and with the important England tour coming up, Pant’s form has become a huge cause of concern for India. …

Rishabh Pant is stubborn; should open in white ball, says Ambati Rayudu | Ipl News

Former India batsman Ambati Rayudu has called on Rishabh Pant to not be stubborn and play as an opener in white-ball cricket as the wicketkeeper batsman continues to struggle for runs. With Lucknow Super Giants struggling to keep pace in the play-offs race, Pant’s struggles this season has come to the forefront following another disappointing outing at Dharamsala against Punjab Kings. And Rayudu has said that one of the reasons behind his “very, very bad patch” could be down to Pant’s stubbornness. In 10 innings so far, Pant has made only 128 runs which includes one fifty and five single-digit scores. The costliest player in the IPL at Rs 27 crore, this has been Pant’s poorest outing ever and Rayudu said time has come for the LSG captain to change his approach. “I think, at this point in time, I’m feeling very sorry for him because he’s not been changing his batting order or his approach,” Rayudu said on ESPNcricinfo’s Time Out. “I think he’s being pretty stubborn about how he wants to go about …

IPL 2025: ‘Maybe he could say, ‘Hey Pooran…’ – Former Aussie captain wants Rishabh Pant to leave wicket-keeping duties | Ipl News

With only one half-century in this IPL, Rishabh Pant has struggled for form in the tournament. With a knock of 18 runs in Lucknow Super Giants’ 37-run loss against Punjab Kings at Dharamsala on Sunday evening, Pant now has a total of 128 runs in 11 matches this season and is failing to get his rhythm. With Pant, who was the most expensive buy at the last IPL auction at Rs 27 crore, also donning the wicket-keeper role for the Capitals, former Australian captain Aaron Finch has suggested that the captain hands the wicketkeeping duties to teammate Nicholas Pooran. “It must be tough captaining while keeping wickets. You only have a few seconds to communicate with your bowlers. There’s pressure to get the overs done on time, so you’re left with maybe 10–15 seconds to talk, if that. It can be hard to stick to a plan because the bowler’s thinking can change ball by ball. Maybe he could say, ‘Hey Pooran, can you keep for a game? I need to get my rhythm back,” …

When LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka explained ‘science’ behind buying Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crore

Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant endured yet another failure with the bat as the team was set a target of 216 runs by the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in an Indian Premier League game. Pant hit a boundary on the first ball of his innings against Mumbai and then perished the next ball itself. In IPL 2025, Pant has managed to score 106 runs off eight innings at an average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 96.36. LSG had bet big on Pant in the IPL mega auction, forking out a record amount of Rs 27 crore. When asked by Raj Shamani on his Figuring Out podcast what the logic was for buying Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crore, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka said: “If we wanted an Indian match-winner, there were four options available in the auction that were of that level. Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Yuzvendra Chahal. When you go into a mega-auction, you’re looking for the long-term. Maybe 10 years. You’re looking for a younger …
