Originally slated for a six-month timeline, the project has made rapid progress, raising hopes of an early inauguration. Spread across 5,183 sq. m., the bus stand is designed to accommodate 28 buses at a time and has modern passenger amenities. There are 49 shops, 10 waiting areas for passengers, two restaurants, a luggage storage room, and two nursing rooms for mothers. It will house a reservation counter, two timekeeper cabins, a police booth, a control room, and 32 free modern toilets, including two specifically designed for persons with disabilities (PwD). The project, once operational, was expected to solve the problem of congestion in Mayiladuthurai besides improving regional connectivity.
