A ruckus erupted at the Ludhiana Bus Stand on Friday morning as contractual workers of Punjab Roadways, Punbus, and Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC)staged a protest, shutting down operations for nearly three hours and leaving hundreds of commuters stranded. New Delhi: A major road accident occurred early Monday on National Highway 48 near the Bhambhroo flyover in Shahpura, Jaipur district, when a Haryana Roadways bus collided with a stationary container truck. According to initial reports, the bus was travelling along the Delhi-Jaipur route when it rammed into the rear of the truck parked on the side of the highway. The impact of the crash caused widespread panic among passengers, with several crying out for help. Three people, including two women, were killed in the accident. Around a dozen passengers sustained injuries of varying severity. Emergency responders, including a team from the Bhambhroo police station, reached the spot shortly after being alerted. Chandigarh: Around 2,800 buses of Punjab Roadways and Pepsu Road Transportation Corporation (PRTC) stayed off the roads as the contractual employees of Punjab Roadways and Pepsu Road Transportation Corporation began a three-day strike on Monday to press their demands, including regularisation of their jobs. Because of the strike, commuters were left stranded at various bus stands across the state. Punjab Roadways, Punbus, PRTC Contract Workers’ Union president Resham Singh Gill said around 8,000 contractual employees are participating in the strike. Demonstrations are being held at all 27 bus depots across the state, he said. The contractual employees have been demanding regularisation of their jobs and a salary hike, among other things, Gill said. A few days ago, the union held a meeting with Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar regarding its demands but there was no resolution, he said. Several people sustained injuries when a roadways bus fell into a ditch about 100 meters deep in Uttarakhand’s Nainital on Wednesday. The accident occurred in the Bhimtal region. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nainital, Prahlad Meena, confirmed that a relief team has been dispatched to the accident site.
