The female powerlifter Yashtika Acharya (17) died in the gym. The neck of the gold medallist player broke when the 270 kg rod fell on her on Tuesday, Naya Shahar SHO Vikram Tiwari said. Immediately after the accident, Acharya was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Tiwari said the accident happened when the trainer was making Yashtika lift weights in the gym. The trainer also suffered minor injuries in the mishap. The SHO said the family has not registered any case in this regard. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family on Wednesday. Powerlifting is a strength sport which consists three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. This sport is not part of Olympics. Mumbai woman assaults 5-year-old girl, burns her with hot iron rod for hiding her cat; arrested | Mumbai News

The Mumbai police arrested a 38-year-old woman for allegedly assaulting a five-year-old girl with a hot iron rod for hiding the woman’s pet cat. The girl’s family alerted the police following which an FIR was registered. An officer said the incident took place around 11 am on Thursday at Shivaji Nagar in Govandi. The girl’s parents, who have been residing there for the past three months, had left her in the neighbour’s care. At the neighbour’s house, the girl was with Nishad Shaikh, 38, when she hid the woman’s cat, officers said. When the girl refused to tell her where the cat was, the woman got upset. Shaikh allegedly hit the child on her head using an iron rod and then used a heated iron rod to burn her right leg. The girl was treated at Shatabdi Hospital and discharged. Train accident averted after iron rod found in railway tracks, three arrested – India TV

The Government Railway Police (GRP) have arrested three suspects in connection with a serious incident that occurred at Rudrapur City Station in Uttarakhand, where a six-meter iron rod was placed across the railway tracks. The pole was marked with the numbers “43-10” in white paint, posing a significant danger to train operations. On September 18, at 10:18 pm, the loco pilot of train number 12091, traveling from Bilaspur Road towards Rudrapur, spotted the iron rod on the tracks between km 43/10-11. Reacting swiftly, the driver applied the emergency brakes, halting the train in time to avoid a potential disaster.  After ensuring the area was safe, the crew removed the pole and resumed the journey without further incident.
