SIT to look into firing on club owner; arrested gangster acted as key coordinator: Panchkula police

The district police have constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the June 3 firing incident, in which Panchkula club owner Rattan Lubana (30), a close relative of a municipal councillor from ward number 1, was targeted by shooters allegedly linked to fugitive gangsters Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar. Lubana had reportedly received threats in the past. Shooter sent to 7-day police custody; another, who was injured in encounter, under treatment. (HT File) According to police officials, gangster Shakeel Ansari, who was recently apprehended by the anti-gangster task force (AGTF) after an encounter in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar, is suspected to have acted as a key handler between the shooters and Rohit Godara. Shakeel was allegedly involved in recruiting shooters and arranging logistical support and weapons for gang operations. Police said shooter Jaspreet Singh (34) of Ludhiana was allegedly in direct contact with Shakeel, who guided him in executing the attack. Delhi High Court urges decision on request by former DUSU president Ronak Khatri for police protection after ‘threats’ from gangster Rohit Godara | Delhi News

The Delhi High Court Thursday directed the Delhi Police to decide on a request by former Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president Ronak Khatri, who is seeking police protection after alleging that he received extortion threats from gangster Rohit Godara. Justice Ravinder Dudeja, while directing the Delhi police “to expedite the request for police protection” as sought by Khatri as he “perceives threat to (his) life”, also directed that pending a decision, the beat constable should visit Khatri “at least once for the next two weeks” to ensure his well-being. Khatri submitted that he received a threat in a WhatsApp message from a phone number registered in Ukraine, demanding Rs 5 crore, allegedly from Rohit Godara, following which an FIR was registered at the Narela police station. New Delhi: The gym owner who was shot dead in South Delhi’s upscale Greater Kailash area on Thursday night had come in the crosshairs of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang because he had asked his business partner not to pay Rs 5 crore that the outfit had tried to extort from him, sources have told NDTV.  Nadir Shah, who is of Afghan origin, was allegedly also friends with two South Delhi gangsters.
