Shubman Gill Makes Big Claim On Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli’s Retirements: “Know How To…”

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had “very contrasting styles” of leadership but the two iconic players along with spinner Ravichandran Ashwin have given the Indian team the “blueprint to win” Test series away from home, says new skipper Shubman Gill, who was on Saturday appointed India’s captain in Tests. The first assignment for the 25-year-old is a five-Test series England where he won’t have stalwarts like Kohli and Rohit in the line-up. “(The) guys like Rohit bhai, Virat bhai and Ashwin bhai… they have given us a blueprint on how to tour away from home and win matches and series,” Gill said in a video released by the BCCI on Sunday. “Yes, it’s one thing to be able to deliver and execute, but because we have that blueprint, we know how to tour away from home and win matches and series,” he added. Gill said while Kohli and Rohit had contrasting styles of leadership, they were also quite similar in style. “When I was a kid, I was always inspired by the great and …

Ajit Agarkar Finally Explains What BCCI Did When Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Quit Test Cricket

Ajit Agarkar Finally Explains What BCCI Did When Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Quit Test Cricket

Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar on Saturday conceded that the void left by the Test retirement of premier cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is tough to fill, but hoped that other players will step up during the upcoming tour of England. Rohit was the first to announce retirement from Test cricket on May 7, while his long-time teammate Kohli followed suit on May 12. “When guys like that retire, they are stalwarts of cricket…it is always difficult, (their) shoes are very big to fill. But one way of looking at it is, that it’s an opportunity for others,” Agarkar told the media after announcing India’s 18-member squad for the five-Test series starting June 20. Young left-hander Sai Sudharsan and the seasoned Karun Nair have been brought in to replace the two superstars. Agarkar revealed that Kohli had reached out to him last month, possibly after the Champions Trophy, expressing his desire to quit Test cricket. “Virat reached out (to the BCCI/selection committee) in early April, and he felt he had given everything …

India Test Squad For England Tour 2025, LIVE Updates: Ex-India Coach Picks Ignored Star To Replace Virat Kohli

While Gill is the favourite to become India’s new Test match No. 4, 33-year-old Karun Nair has been backed by former cricketer Sanjay Bangar, following an excellent few months in domestic cricket. “I’m thinking of Karun Nair at No.4. If all the talk of giving domestic cricket the priority and (using it as) benchmark, then he has done everything possible to get his Test spot back,” said Bangar, speaking on ESPNcricinfo. Gautam Gambhir Told To Not ‘Shield’ Shubman Gill If Made New Test Captain: “Don’t Say…”

File photo of Shubman Gill© AFP Former Indian cricket team batter Navjot Singh Sidhu believes that Jasprit Bumrah is the ideal candidate to become the next Test captain. Ahead of the squad announcement for the England series, Sidhu said that Bumrah will be the right choice as captain considering his brilliant performances overseas. Following Rohit Sharma‘s retirement, the selectors were faced with the challenge of picking the new captain. While Bumrah was the vice-captain in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia and even led the side on some occasions, Shubman Gill has emerged as the top contender. “Tough conditions, right? Without a captain, without a strong leader, those transitions are impossible. Who is that person who will say, I am standing in front of the line; I will lead by example? Who is that person who will instill faith in those who follow him? Who is that person who will have acceptance? Remember, Hardik Pandya came to Mumbai last time. The acceptance was not there. What happened to the team? This time, there is …

Gautam Gambhir Big Admission Ahead Of New Captain Announcement: “Easier To Work…”

Gautam Gambhir Big Admission Ahead Of New Captain Announcement: “Easier To Work…”

Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir would prefer to have one captain for all three formats, but admits such a scenario is not possible in modern day cricket. Following Rohit Sharma‘s Test retirment, the BCCI is likely to announce a new captain for the format on Saturday ahead of a five-match series against England, starting June 20. Suryakumar Yadav is currently India’s captain in T20Is, while Rohit will continue to lead in the 50-over format. With Rohit and Virat Kohli retired from Test and T20Is, Gambhir is likely to have more power in selections calls, and there is a high chance that India will have three different captains for each format. Gambhir would ideally have one captain for all three formats as it is much easier to plan and strategise with one individual. However, he admitted that it virtually impossible for a player to play all three formats throughout the year, in addition to the IPL. “Ideally, as a coach, it is much easier to work with a guy if you have one …

Rohit Sharma’s 1st Innings After Test Retirement Ends On 5; Internet Is Unforgiving

Rohit Sharma’s 1st Innings After Test Retirement Ends On 5; Internet Is Unforgiving

Suryakumar Yadav‘s resolute 73 not out and late fireworks from Naman Dhir lifted Mumbai Indians to 180/5 on a sluggish surface exploited well by Delhi Capitals spinners Kuldeep Yadav (1/25) and Vipraj Nigam (0/25) in their IPL clash here on Wednesday. On an uncharacteristic Wankhede Stadium pitch which had plenty of grip and turn for spinners and slow cutters doing the job for fast bowlers, Suryakumar dug in to produce a quality knock for the five-time IPL winners. Suryakumar struck seven fours and four sixes to make 73 not out off 43 balls while forging two crucial stands which revived a faltering innings. First, amid a challenging phase of play with DC’s spinners dominating the proceedings, Suryakumar put on 55 runs for the fourth wicket with Tilak Varma and towards the end, found a perfect foil in Dhir (24 off 8 balls, 2x4s, 2x6s) to add another 57 runs from a mere 21 balls. The tables turned drastically in the last two overs when the Indian T20 skipper Suryakumar and Dhir hit a …

BCCI Rejecting ‘MS Dhoni-Style Proposal’ Led To Rohit Sharma Retirement: Report

BCCI Rejecting ‘MS Dhoni-Style Proposal’ Led To Rohit Sharma Retirement: Report

Rohit Sharma wanted to travel to England for the five-Test series and retire midway just like Dhoni had done during the 2014 tour of Australia, according to a report by Sky Sports. However, the offer was rejected by the BCCI and that reportedly led to the decision to retire ahead of the series. “Selectors wanted consistency during the series and offered Sharma the opportunity to go to the series, but not as captain. He decided to retire instead,” the report claimed. Rohit stunned everyone with his decision to retire from Test cricket and Kohli followed suit just few days later. As a result, the BCCI selectors face a tough challenge to fill the void left by the retirement of the two stalwarts of modern cricket. The report further claimed that the BCCI selection committee held ‘informal talk’ with both Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant as potential candidates to succeed Rohit as the next Test captain.  The selection committee is expected to announce the squad for the England series around May 23 and although there …
