He has not told us anything

2 min readJul 20, 2026 01:41 AM IST India captain Shubman Gill has said there hasn’t been any discussion with Rohit Sharma about the Lord’s ODI being his last for international appearance. With an eye on the 2027 World Cup, as reported by The Indian Express, the selectors have informed the 39-year-old Rohit that the England series will be his last. However, there hasn’t been any official word from Rohit or from the selectors so far. Having played two subdued knocks in the first two ODIs, on Sunday Rohit scored 138 in a losing cause. Despite scoring a century, it wasn’t the former India captain who turned up for the post-match media conference, where skipper Shubman Gill showed up. Asked specifically whether Rohit will be announcing his retirement, Gill said: “We have not had a chance. He has not told us anything. I think it’s probably in the media. Not been in discussion at all.” And then he went on to speak about Rohit’s innings, where he scored his first century at Lord’s to make …

Rohit Sharma’s century goes in vain as England clinch ODI series with 27-run win

5 min readMumbaiJul 20, 2026 12:36 AM IST The ODI series decider promised to have all the ingredients of a contest between two star-studded sides. Instead, it became a battle between the two opening pairs. Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell laid the platform with a 192-run stand before Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill responded with one of their own. In the end, though, England’s middle order and bowlers did just enough to outscore India’s and clinch the match by 27 runs and the series 2-1. For nearly 25 overs in their chase of 388, Rohit and Gill gave India the start, a task of such magnitude demanded. Against a disciplined new-ball spell from Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson, they were forced to bide their time as balls kept beating the outside edge and lateral movement kept strokeplay in check. Once they weathered that phase, the pair took control. Rohit broke the shackles with trademark pulls and scoops, while Gill relied on elegant drives through the covers and proactive footwork against spin. They rotated strike consistently, …

Rohit Sharma’s century at Lord’s came off Shardul Thakur’s bat

3 min readUpdated: Jul 20, 2026 12:02 AM IST Rohit Sharma’s sensational hundred at Lord’s against England came from the willow given by his team mate Shardul Thakur. Sharma used Thakur’s bat during a long chase but India failed to cross the winning line in the series decider. The 39-year-old Sharma slammed 138 off 110 balls in the third and final ODI with his future with India still uncertain. “I am signed with SS bats and Jatin Sareen (owner) has been very kind to send me some excellent piece of willows. Rohit once requested me to give him a couple of bats since he loved them. We all love him and he’s given us so many joyful moments in the game of cricket that denying him the bats was out of question. And today I am really happy that he scored his historic hundred at Lord’s cricket ground using one of my bats,” Thakur told The Indian Express. When Thakur was part of the Indian team was referred as the ‘Lord Thakur’ by his team …

This was Rohit’s 34th century in the 50-over format and he got to the milestone in 84 deliveries in an innings studded with 11 fours and 4 sixes. On Thursday, The Indian Express had reported that this match at Lord’s could be Rohit’s last match for India. The BCCI’s senior selection committee is learnt to have informed him that they have decided to “move on” from him after the England series. The panel is learnt to have spoken to Sharma, along with coach Gautam Gambhir, last week. According to sources, the selection committee wants to give youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been waiting in the wings, a chance, and has made it clear that it doesn’t see a role for Sharma in the 2027 World Cup.
