‘Virat has always been fit but Rohit…’: Shikhar Dhawan weighs in on India veterans’ run to 2027 ODI World Cup | Cricket News

3 min readUpdated: May 1, 2026 08:11 AM IST Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are both in the thick of their respective IPL teams’ campaigns in the 2026 season of the tournament, although the latter has been out injured for the last four matches that Mumbai Indians have played. Kohli and Rohit have retired from T20Is, making the IPL the only tournament in which fans get to see the two India veterans play in the shortest format. The pair have however shown that they are far from losing their touch. Kohli is striking upwards of 165 in the nine innings he has played in and has consistently been in the top five of the Orange Cap table. Rohit before his injury was the struggling MI’s most consistent runscorer. In international cricket, though, the pair are now active only in ODIs, which had initially led to questions around their place in the Indian team. However, they now seem to have silenced them with some stellar performances, especially in the case of Kohli who has scored 50 …

‘Remember what I am saying’: Mohammad Kaif’s ‘2027 World Cup’ prediction for Rohit Sharma | Cricket News

3 min readMar 14, 2026 04:49 PM IST With India winning the 2026 T20 World Cup, the focus will now slowly shift to the longer white-ball format in which veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to play a crucial role. Rohit, who was closely involved with the 2026 T20 World Cup as the ICC’s brand ambassador for the tournament, retired from Test cricket as captain of the team after a disastrous tour of Australia last year. That left him active only in ODIs, having retired from T20Is after leading India to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, leading questions over his place in the team considering the dwindling number of 50-over matches that are being played in international cricket. However, Rohit answered those critics by returning to the international stage visibly leaner and with some consistent performances with the bat. Former India batsman Mohammad Kaif has said that Rohit has silenced all those who used to question his fitness and his physique and performances will be all that will be spoken of …

‘What will I do with these runs?’: Rohit Sharma on turning point after India failed to win 2019 ODI World Cup | Cricket News

Former India skipper Rohit Sharma recently opened out on the shift in his mindset after the 2019 ODI World Cup after the team had fallen short of winning the trophy. Despite Rohit smacking 648 runs in the tournament, including 6 centuries, India fell to New Zealand by 18 runs in the semifinal. Reflecting on the loss, Rohit said that got him thinking about what use those runs were if they couldn’t help his country win the trophy. “The 2019 World Cup was a big lesson for me. I scored so many runs there, but we did not win the World Cup. So I asked myself, what is the use of this? What will I do with these runs? Yes, they remain in your statistics column and all that, but for me, that was of no real use. That is when I decided that I would play for what makes me happy,” he said on JioHotstar’s ‘Captain Rohit Sharma’s Roadmap for T20 World Cup’ show. “That is why I started thinking differently in 2020. What I …

Sanjay Manjrekar says it’s unlikely that Rohit Sharma will be there in the 2027 World Cup | Cricket News

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar said that it was very unlikely that current India skipper Rohit Sharma will stick around for the 2027 World Cup. Manjrekar also suggested that the ongoing Champions Trophy might be the last international tournament that Rohit takes part in. “I have a feeling (that) if he has decided, I mean can Rohit Sharma be there for the 2027 Cricket World Cup? I don’t think so, very unlikely. So, then, this could be, what you are suggesting, could be the final tournament,” said Manjrekar on ESPNcricinfo’s Matchday programme. “I’m expecting Rohit Sharma to go out there and he should be actually liberated not so much by this being his sort of swansong or whatever, just by the fact that so much of quality batting to come (from him),” added Manjrekar. Story continues below this ad Rohit has started the Champions Trophy with a dominant 41 runs against Bangladesh and notched up a 69-run partnership with vice captain Shubman Gill.
