Knight Riders’ bowlers fashion key win over MI to keep playoff hopes alive

Synopsis: Kolkata Knight Riders leave it late to beat MI by 4 wickets and keep play-offs hopes alive Kolkata Knight Riders kept their chances of reaching the playoffs alive and they had their bowlers to thank for it. After they restricted Mumbai Indians to 147/8, a fourth-wicket partnership between Rovman Powell and Manish Pandey steadied the innings as they got home with more than an over to spare. On a sultry evening with rain expected, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane opted to chase on a ground where dew was likely to be a significant factor as the match progressed. Mumbai openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton started slowly, managing only a single boundary in the first couple of overs. With pressure building, Rickelton swung at Cameron Green in the third over, but the ball ballooned up and landed in Manish Pandey’s grasp. Naman Dhir lasted two balls, nicking behind to Angkrish Raghuvanshi, giving Green his second wicket. Rohit, meanwhile, slog-swept Saurabh Dubey for a six only to fall to the Vidarbha pacer for 15, leaving Mumbai …

‘Destiny is still in our hands’: Rovman Powell remains upbeat after KKR’s defeat to Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2026 | Cricket News

3 min readApr 10, 2026 07:30 AM IST The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered their third loss of IPL 2026, going down in a last-ball thriller to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Eden Gardens on Thursday. The defeat left them with one point from four matches and ninth on the points table. The Ajinkya Rahane-led side may be struggling for form, but their West Indian all-rounder, Rovman Powell, remained optimistic about a turnaround. “If you look at IPL history, teams that win are the ones that peak in the middle and later stages. It’s not easy when you don’t start well, but our destiny is still in our hands. We still have games left. If we keep putting in the work, the results will come. Sometimes it’s not just about the result – tonight was a good game, we just ended up on the wrong side. But wins will come if we keep doing the right things,” he said after the match. Powell admitted that KKR had let an opportunity slip at home, while crediting …

Former India bowler wants Aussie all-rounder to be dropped from KKR playing XI

Former India bowler wants Aussie all-rounder to be dropped from KKR playing XI

2 min readUpdated: Apr 3, 2026 11:27 AM IST Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has observed that Kolkata Knight Riders’ faith in their record signing Cameron Green may be misplaced, and that the Aussie all-rounder does not find room in an ideal XI after two successive defeats. After losing their opening match in Mumbai, where Green, who is currently restricted from bowling by Cricket Australia (CA) made 18 runs, the Knights lost their first match at home at the Eden Gardens on Thursday to SunRisers Hyderabad by 65 runs. Involved in a run-out mix-up with wicketkeeper-batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi, the 26-year-old Green only scored two runs during a 227-run chase against SRH. Without offering services with the ball, KKR’s Rs 25.20 crore auction buy is not worth game time, according to Harbhajan. The two-time World Cup winner said that KKR could instead bolster their batting by roping in the in-form New Zealand star Tim Seifert who lit up the recent T20 World Cup or West Indies powerhouse Rovman Powell. “I feel that Cameron Green doesn’t fit …

IPL 2026: ‘Cam Green is not even close to Andre Russell’

3 min readMar 23, 2026 07:27 PM IST Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif believes Australian all-rounder Cameron Green cannot fill the shoes of Andre Russell in the Kolkata Knight Riders setup. Following the retirement of the veteran all-rounder and match-winner, KKR attempted to fill the void by going all out for Green, securing the Australian for a staggering ₹25.2 crore during the mini-auction ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. Kaif acknowledged that Green is a capable batter but insisted there is no comparison between the two, adding that the Australian does not come close to the Caribbean powerhouse. “Cameron Green is not even close to Andre Russell. He is a good batter, but the difference is huge when you compare him with Russell,” Kaif said on his YouTube channel. After bagging a big contract, Green has been the centre of discussions with many former players giving their verdict on him. Recently, former Australia captain Greg Chappell has questioned Green’s performance, while ex-India cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath slammed KKR for chasing the Western Australian and …

‘I just wanna go home’: Daren Sammy pleads as Iran War traps West Indies in India after World Cup exit | Cricket News

3 min readMar 5, 2026 05:26 PM IST West Indies head coach Daren Sammy was left angered by the team getting grounded in India due to the Iran War that has shut down transit hubs in the Middle East. West Indies’ campaign at the T20 World Cup ended in the Super 8 stage with a defeat to the Indian cricket team at Eden Gardens. Since then, the team has not been able to leave India. In a series of posts on his X handle, Sammy lamented not being able to go home. “I just wanna go home,” Sammy wrote on X on Thursday. He followed it up with another post, writing: “At least an update, tell us something. Today tmw, next week. It’s been 5 days.” Sammy’s plea on social media comes just days after Cricket West Indies (CWI) had said that it was working “closely” with the International Cricket Council (ICC), governmental authorities and airline partners to secure the “earliest possible safe travel arrangements” for the West Indies team that was marooned in India. …

Frustrated Shai Hope after West Indies’ T20 World Cup exit

Frustrated Shai Hope after West Indies’ T20 World Cup exit

4 min readMar 2, 2026 06:56 PM IST After playing fighting cricket throughout the last three weeks, the West Indies were knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2026 after suffering a five-wicket loss to India in the Super 8 match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, where Indian opener Sanju Samson slammed a blistering 50-ball 97. In what was a virtual quarterfinal clash against the hosts India, the visitors put up a competitive 195 runs on the board after being asked to bat first. West Indies went with a different opening pair, with skipper Shai Hope partnering Roston Chase at the top, dropping Brandon King. While Chase ensured a confident start for the visitors, it was Hope who struggled against the Indian attack with the new ball. He managed 32 off 33 balls, with his strike rate below 100 in a must-win game. However, fighting knocks from Jason Holder and Rovman Powell helped West Indies reach 195. The target proved insufficient against Samson, who played one of the greatest knocks in a chase, …

‘Don’t worry, mom. I’ll take care of the water’: The night that made Rovman Powell | Cricket News

The rain was falling hard that night in Jamaica. Inside the unfinished house with the tin roof, water found its way through the cracks, pooling on the floor. There was one mattress in the middle of the room, kept dry by careful positioning. And there was an 11-year-old boy telling his mother: “Don’t worry, mom. You sleep. I’ll take care of the water.” This is not a story about cricket, not yet. This is about survival skills that cannot be taught in any academy, about a protective instinct born from necessity, about what happens when a boy becomes the man of the house even before he’s old enough to understand what that means. Rovman Powell, the big-hitting Caribbean star who makes bowlers around the world lose sleep, now plays in leagues for money that would have seemed like a fairy tale to that boy with wet feet. But he remembers those damp nights with the clarity of yesterday. “I knew the importance of a male figure in the house,” he says simply. “I was that …

‘This is how you guys repay him’: Dwayne Bravo slams West Indies for removing Rovman Powell as T20I captain | Ipl News

Former Windies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has slammed Cricket West Indies for removing Rovman Powell from the helm of the T20I side on Monday. Wicketkeeper-batter Shai Hope replaced the 31-year-old Powell as the new T20I skipper on a day where Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite also vacated his position. CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe said in a statement that Hope was marked to take over the T20I side after the “advice of head coach Daren Sammy.” Powell had taken over the role in May 2023 and oversaw home series wins against India, England, and South Africa.”I have expressed to him [Powell] that he ought to feel dignified by his contributions to West Indies cricket, as he has played a crucial role in elevating our T20 team to new heights,” Bascombe said. “His leadership has left a strong foundation, and we are grateful for his efforts.” Story continues below this ad Meanwhile, Sammy said Hope’s appointment “signals a progressive shift for West Indies cricket, given his success with the 50-over team in the last 18 months”. “As …

Kraigg Brathwaite steps down as West Indies Test captain, Shai Hopes appointed T20I skipper | Cricket News

Kraigg Brathwaite has stepped down as skipper of the West Indies Test team after four years in charge, Cricket West Indies (CWI) said on Monday after a shift in leadership roles saw Shai Hope taking over captaincy of the T20I side. Brathwaite, 32, was appointed as West Indies’ Test captain in place of Jason Holder in March 2021. Hope, who is also the team’s ODI skipper, replaced Rovman Powell for T20I captaincy. Powell has led the T20 side since May 2023. Story continues below this ad In a statement, CWI said, “Brathwaite wanted to ensure the team had a period of transition before his departure. As a result, he has submitted his resignation ahead of the home series against Australia, giving the new leadership time to establish itself. “This series will be particularly special, allowing Brathwaite, who is two matches shy of 100 Test matches, to double down on his batting without added responsibility.” A new Test captain will be announced shortly. The West Indies are scheduled to play Australia in a home series in …
