Unveiling the statue of the late Gopinanathan Nair, a prominent Gandhian, at Neyyattinkara in Thiruvananthapuram district on Wednesday, Tushar Gandhi said, “We will be able to defeat the BJP, but the RSS is poison. RSS-BJP workers illegally detain Tushar Gandhi

A group of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists allegedly illegally detained Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, near Neyyattinkara, in the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday evening, causing public outcry and politically non-partisan protests from both the ruling front and the Opposition.  The protesters were reportedly irked by Mr. Gandhi, who was in Kerala at the invitation of the Sivagiri Madhom, terming the RSS a cancer on the nation’s soul in a speech commemorating the 100th anniversary of Sree Narayana Guru’s historic meeting with Mahatma Gandhi at the Madhom.  Mr. Gandhi was later in Neyyattinkara to unveil the statue of late Gandhian P. Gopinathan Nair at the latter’s ancestral home.  After the function, the RSS activists besieged Mr. Gandhi when he entered the vehicle. The protesters gheraoed Mr. Gandhi and demanded that he retract his speech condemning the RSS at the Sivagiri Madhom.  No police presence Mr. Gandhi stepped out of the vehicle, confronted the protesters, and was seemingly unrepentant. He shouted, “RSS murdabad and Gandhiji zindabad” back at the …

Will catch RSS-BJP by ear to get caste census done: Lalu Prasad | India News

RJD president Lalu Prasad on Thursday vowed to ensure that a caste census is conducted, saying he will “catch the RSS-BJP by the ear” to make it happen. The former Bihar chief minister made the remark at a function organised by his party to mark the birth anniversary of OBC stalwart Babu Jagdeo Prasad, whose aggressive style of political mobilisation had earned him the epithet “Lenin of Bihar”. “I will catch the RSS-BJP by the ear and make them get caste census done”, said Prasad, evoking applause and laughter from the crowds. The ailing septuagenarian, who nowadays rarely turns up at public functions, spoke for less than five minutes and in a weak voice though he remained the cynosure of all eyes at the RJD office which was choc-a-bloc with workers and supporters. Earlier, his younger son and heir apparent Tejashwi Yadav gave a detailed speech in which the RJD’s track record in safeguarding the interests of the backward classes were highlighted. Yadav pointed out that his father, as the then Bihar CM, had ensured …
