Observing that admission into pre-primary class must be a “national mission”, the Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, “neighbourhood schools” are constitutionally and statutorily obligated to admit students allotted by the state government without any delay. Reiterating the obligation of private unaided neighbourhood schools to admit students allotted under the RTE framework without delay, a bench of justices P S Narasimha and Alok Aradhe said that denial of such admissions undermines the fundamental right to education guaranteed under Article 21A of the Constitution. The confirmation process commenced on April 11 till April 20. Considering the slow response of confirmations, the date has been extended till April 30. A total of 2,89,286 students in the state had applied for the 25 per cent RTE quota admissions for the academic year 2026-27. Out of these, 1,05,811 candidates were selected in the RTE lottery on April 10. Till 4:30 pm on April 21, 42,827 have confirmed their admission under this quota. Last year, over 88,000 students had confirmed admissions under the RTE quota after the final admission rounds.Sharad Gosavi, Director of Primary Education, said, “If there are any technical difficulties the parents can contact the local education officers and they will help them out. UP RTE 25% quota admission schedule announced for 2026–27 session in private schools | Education News

Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Department has released the admission schedule for the academic year 2026–27 through 25 per cent reservation in private schools as per the RTE Act-2009, as per a statement issued here on Monday. According to the departmental guidelines, the admission process will be conducted entirely through an online portal.Eligible children for Class 1 or pre-primary level will be selected through a lottery system to ensure transparency and equality. The department has instructed District Basic Education Officers and Block Education Officers of all districts to ensure that the admission of selected children is completed within the prescribed time limit. In addition, schools will be required to upload the admission status on the portal, it said. The First phase of the process will be from February 2 to 16, the second phase from February 21 to March 7 and the third phase from March 12 to 25. The Uttar Pradesh government has made admission process easier for underprivileged children by eliminating the need for children’s Aadhar cards. The state government has revamped the admission process for enrolment in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. To remove the obstacles and contingencies in the admission process of disadvantaged groups and address the woes of parents seeking admission of their wards, UP government made this landmark move. Previously, Aadhar card of both parents and that of the child seeking admission were mandatory requirement while filing online application form for RTE admissions. Reacting to the modification of admission process, Basic and Secondary Education Additional Chief Secretary Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma said, “Our effort is to make ‘ease of living’ a reality as far as possible, especially for the families genuinely belonging to disadvantaged groups, in the spirit of RTE,” Times of India reported. Moorthy Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday (December 23, 2025) said that a record rise in admissions to private schools under Right to Education (RTE) Act has taken place in the State with over 1.40 lakh children admitted so far. “Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a significant and record increase in admissions of children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections to private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, reflecting the positive impact of policies implemented by the Yogi Adityanath government. In the academic session 2025–26, over 1.40 lakh children have been admitted so far under the RTE Act.
