Three inspectors from the Motor Transport Department were booked by the state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Wednesday for allegedly accepting bribes from personnel within their own Regional Transport Office (RTO). According to officials, the three inspectors, who were part of the procurement department  in the Transport Commissioner’s office, would send proposals to acquire interception vehicles from the government. During the distribution of these vehicles to RTOs across the state, the trio allegedly demanded Rs 25,000 per vehicle under the pretext of covering expenses. The ACB has identified the three inspectors as Parikshit Patil, Santosh Kathar, and Dhanraj Shinde, all of whom are posted at the Transport Commissioner’s office in Mumbai. The agency’s inquiry revealed that the inspectors had illicitly collected around Rs 46.47 lakh, claiming the funds were for additional work on 187 newly acquired vehicles. Delivery of driving licence and RC: RTO offices across Kerala hamstrung due to staff shortage

More personnel ought to be posted in each of the 86 Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and Sub RTOs in Kerala, if the around nine lakh applicants for driving licence and registration certificate (RC) were to come and collect them, since none of the offices have manpower to distribute the two documents, say Motor Vehicles department (MVD) officials. The delivery of the documents was held up since mid-November because the MVD, which collected the prescribed fee from applicants, failed to clear dues to the Postal department and to a firm that had been entrusted with printing them. Currently, 15 officials are in charge of overseeing the …
