Indian Javelin thrower Sachin Yadav had a forgettable outing on his Diamond League debut, finishing 8th at Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy, on Thursday. The 26-year-old failed to cross the 80m mark in either of his five throws, finishing with the best throw of 79.18m from his second attempt. He had gone to Rome, hoping to breach the Commonwealth Games qualifying mark of 82.61m, but couldn’t find his rhythm and missed out again. This was his second successive competition where he failed to breach the 80m mark, following the 79.07m throw at the 2026 Federation Cup in Ranchi last month. Asian Games bronze medallist Genki Dean of Japan and rising Sri Lankan Rumesh Pathirage will be among the foreign stars taking part in the maiden edition of the Neeraj Chopra Classic javelin throw event in Bengaluru on May 24. The 33-year-old Dean had won a bronze in the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games with a throw of 82.68m, behind Chopra and Kishore Jena. He has a personal best of 84.28m which he had achieved in 2012. The javelin throw field for the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 was announced on Thursday with Pakistan thrower Arshad Nadeem’s name missing. Instead, Rumesh Pathirage from Sri Lanka has been added to the elite field of international throwers. While the seven javelin throwers from abroad have been named, the Indian throwers are yet to be revealed. two-time Olympics medallist Neeraj Chopra has already confirmed that he will be competing at the event.
