₹3,301 crore paid to 66,038 farmer families under Rythu Bima: Tummala

Hyderabad The State Government has provided insurance assistance worth ₹3,301.90 crore to the families of 66,038 deceased farmers under the Rythu Bima scheme during the last two-and-a-half years, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said on Thursday. Providing details of the Bima scheme, the Minister stated that from December 2023 till date, 66,038 farmer families had benefited from the programme, with insurance claims amounting to ₹3,301.90 crore directly credited to the nominees’ bank accounts. Out of this, ₹1,004.50 crore was paid to 20,090 families between December 2023 and the end of that year, while ₹1,293.05 crore was disbursed to 25,861 families during 2024. For the financial year 2025-26, a total of 42.16 lakh farmers have been enrolled under the Rythu Bima scheme, he said. The government has paid the entire annual premium of ₹1,359.56 crore to LIC, ensuring coverage for all registered farmers. As a result, insurance assistance worth ₹1,004.35 crore has been extended to 20,087 bereaved farmer families during the year, providing crucial financial support in difficult times. Revanth Reddy during the “Rythu Utsavalu” at Narmetta in Nangunuru mandal of Siddipet district on Sunday. He promised earlier that a total amount of ₹9,000 crore would be released in three phases within 45 days to 70 lakh farmers. The Chief Minister said that the first tranche of payment, ₹3,600 crore, will be credited on Monday (March 22), another ₹5,400 crore will be released in the next 20 days and the remaining in the next 20 days. Mr. Reddy claimed that during the 10-year rule of K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the State spent an average of ₹2,533 crore per month on farmers, whereas Congress government has been spending ₹5,500 crore per month over the last 28 months on agriculture and farmers’ welfare. Onion, tomato prices likely to stabilise by next week, says Rythu Bazaar official

RAO The prices of onions and tomatoes at Rythu Bazaars in Vijayawada declined as the same has come down significantly in the retail markets compared to last week when a kg of tomato was available for ₹68. On October 10 (Thursday), a kg of onion was sold somewhere between ₹50 and ₹55, while the government is providing the vegetable at a subsidised rate of ₹33 a kg in all seven Rythu Bazaars in the city. The tomato prices remained at ₹50 a kg both in Rythu Bazaars and retail markets on Thursday. However, half a kg tomato was sold at around ₹55 on platforms such as Swiggy. Patamata Rythu Bazaar Estate Officer Karunakar said that the prices were expected to come down on Friday and stabilise by the next week. Rythu Bandhu for Yasangi disbursed to 92.68% farmers

Telangana government has completed disbursement and direct benefit transfer of Rythu Bandhu funds of ₹5,000 per acre for the 2023-24 Rabi or Yasangi season to 92.68% of farmers, by crediting ₹5,575 crore to the land-holding farmers’ bank accounts as on March 28. According to a statement issued by the Agriculture department on Friday, the investment support has reached 64,75,320 farmers with land-holding up to 5 acres. The disbursement was done as per the land details recorded by the previous government. The benefit has been disbursed for 1,11,49,534 acres so far, including 22,24,870 farmers with land-holding up to one acre, 17,72,675 farmers with an extent up to two acres, 11,30,788 farmers with an extent up to three acres, 6,54,419 farmers with an extent up to four acres and 4,92,568 farmers with extent up to five acres. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had made it clear that the Government was not willing to extend the benefit to people who own real estate ventures or hillocks that were registered as patta land. The Telangana government has launched the 10th phase of Rythu Bandhu (acronym for ‘Friend of the Farmer’) scheme, which the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has promised to replicate all over the country to save farmers from debt. Under this phase, Rs 7,676 crore will be deposited in the bank accounts of nearly 70 lakh farmers towards investment support for the Yasangi (rabi) season. The scheme aims at providing timely cash to farmers for their investment requirements, and to ensure they don’t get trapped in debt.
